Villa's Battle For 4th Place - Update 1

Villa's Battle For 4th Place - Update 1

Following on from thorpyuk (formerly eircols_son) article last week: Villa's Battle For 4th Place - We Can Do It!

We have an update which I believe we are going to be treated with in the run up to the end of the season:

Statsmaster update - opposition rising!

So, through all the fog surrounding the League Cup final, our competitors were busy in action in the league.

So, how did they do?

Liverpool triumphed 2-1 against Blackburn
Tottenham beat a good Everton team 2-1 also,
Man City managed a 4-2 win at the bridge against Chelsea!

Well done to our fellow competitors, but where does that leave our predicted finish?

4th - Villa 68 5th Liverpool 67 6th Man City 67 7th Tottenham 65 8th Everton 61

So, should our results come in as originally predicted (difficult but achievable), we should still nab that spot, but my my it's tight! I only had Liverpool down as a nailed on win over last weekend!

Awsome weekend for Citeh and Spuds, a lot of pressure on Villa to really go and try to win every game, including against Citeh - how huge is that game!!!!

Brilliant though that we are up there and have as gooda shout as anybody, despite yesterday still a very happy Villa fan sat here :-D

Why is your goal difference only 16?? Don't you have one of the stingiest defenses in the league? So why aren't you scoring more? You've got to start making your impenetrable defense count for something as you never know how important goal difference might become at the end of the season.

largely down to strikers ForeverUnited. Gabby is chipping in, Delfouneso (keep an eye out for this lad, very promising) is only going to be introduced slowly. Heskey will never be prolific and John Carew is an enigma. Seems to be a massive missing link for us which I'm sure at some stage (!?) will be sorted. Easier typed than done I'm sure!

Foreverunited you've hit the nail on the head. This is a team in development and MON will give Gabby time to develop into a top striker. It's who he gets alongside him that could make a difference in the medium term. It sounds to me like he's lost patience with Carew and is losing it with Heskey. He fixed the defence for this season - I think it likely the attack will be his priority for next season.

Why indeed, ForeverUnited, It is a puzzle, no wait I have it, it is because we play non scoring strikers, which I'm told is a good thing, but like you, are not entirely sure why it is a good thing, in fact I'm starting to think it is not a good thing
