Stephen Warnock's Chance For World Cup?

A chance for Villa defender Stephen Warnock?

According to Vital England, Wayne Bridge won't be going to the World Cup?!

Warnock

Vital England says: Everton's Leighton Baines and Aston Villa's Stephen Warnock are almost certain to be the ones turned to and I would think that both will get a run out against Egypt next month...

What do you think?

Well with the 2 prefered left backs probably 'out' his form this year and a lack of options mean he's definately going to SA. Who starts will probably be entirely dependent on who plays infront of him. If it's a right footer who constantly wants to cut inside Warnock getting up and down the line all day might get him the nod. If he plays a 'conventional' winger Lescott or Baines would be more likely

Bridge should be behind Warnock and Baines in the pecking order anyway. No loss.

That Wayne Bridge announcement made me chuckle today. No offense to the poor bloke but Stephen Warnock and Leighton Baines are surely higher up the pecking order than he is! It just seems like his agent and lawyers are sparing him the embarresment of not actually being picked for the WC squad after all this hype.

Warnock is a better player than Bridge anyway. The only one who gets sympathy from me is JT's wife. Bridge wasn't with the wag (slag?) when JT 'played round the back of her' and as such he needs to get over himself.

I don't feel sorry for Bridge, it was an ex girlfriend Terry had an affair with wasn't it? Or was Bridge still dating her at the time? Any way, sod Terry, Bridge should be looking after himself and England and to miss the world cup over an ex... mad.

Id say Warnock has overtaken him yeah on this seasons form, but Bridge has been playing champs league for years now and while Baines has had a good 6 months at Everton - Bridge was definatley Capellos number 2 behind Cole though and a big blow to him. Terry is a disgrace.

If Terry was 'BIG' enough he should step down for this friendly against Egypt and leave the way clear for Bridge to play, Then by the time The world cup comes hopefully this would all be old news, time is the best healer they say! I take my hat off to Bridge, but that aside Warnock has been great this season for us and I dont think Bridge is any better than him.

Stephen Warnock has really been doing the business for us since his move from Ewood Park, and hopefully he will indeed be called into the England squad for the game against Egypt. He fully deserves the recall, and hopefully he'll get the opportunity to impress Capello. If Cole is fully fit for the World Cup tournament, and that has to be a big 'if' right now, then obviously he'll be England's number one left full back, and I certainly dont have a problem with that, but Warnock would be a more than capable deputy.

Ok, so Stephen gets the nod for SA this summer. Where does that leave Freddie in MoN's mind? His injury may not have directly ended his career but it could lead to him spending more time on the bench, even returning to Holland to play out his last few years. (How old is he?).

He (Bouma) must be 30 or 31 andy5759. I cant see him being overly happy at the prospect of sitting on the bench as understudy for Stephen Warnock, so I wouldn't be surprised if he moved on this summer, probably as you suggest, returning to his native Holland. I'm not writing him off, but his immediate first team prospects look somewhat bleak.

Just silly, Bridge is a p$$sy and not good enough anyway, if Cole is fit he plays, if not at the moment its a toss of a coin between Baines and Warnock, for me I would give 45 mins to each against Egypt and see what happens.

Who cares about Bridge? One of the problems with full backs these days (and I think we can go back quite a few years as well) is that the main focus seems, in the media it seems anyway, is how well they can attack. Yet the best 2 full backs of the last 20 years have been Thuram and Maldini...defenders first who could also attack. Bridge's defending is average, Warnock's is solid. In my mind there should be no doubt as to who Ashley Cole's back up should be. If we can get someone on the Right hand side who knows how to defend also (Johnson isn't the answer) then we will be very hard to beat at the World Cup. Not sure who though.
