'If It's Football, It's Vital'

FA Cup Build Up Including Captain Out?

According to the Official site Stiliyan Petrov has a virus so might not feature mid week v Crystal Palace in the FA Cup 5th Round Replay.

MON says he has been sent home and 'We'll see what he is like tomorrow. At this minute, he would probably be a doubt for the game.'

Martin O'Neill also says they know they'll need to be strong to get through to the sixth round and that the rest of the squad are very keen to play their part.

On Gabby Agbonlahor who picked up a knock against Burnley on Sunday, MON added,

'Gabby is feeling his calf a little bit but again I thought he was excellent for us on Sunday, particularly at a time where we weren't playing so well. He showed for it, he went down the channels and was causing them problems when we weren't playing so cleverly, and I'm delighted he got a goal as well. It allowed me to get him off the field for the last 20 minutes. But he is keen to play anyway and that is always a very encouraging sign.'

Stan Collymore has hailed Villa's new-found maturity - insisting this vital quality earned them a second shot against Crystal Palace this week. Full article: www.avfc.co.uk

Meanwhile Petrov says Villa ARE fully focused on progressing in the FA Cup and are looking forward to the next round against WBA or Reading if they can dispatch Palace this Wednesday night.

He said: 'Villa Park is buzzing with cup fever as we look forward to a fifth round FA Cup replay against Crystal Palace at Villa Park and the Carling Cup final at Wembley. All the lads are eagerly looking forward to those big games, no question about that.

And on the next round, he says the team would like to play the Baggies adding, 'A derby with the prize of a Wembley semi-final place would be great but first we have to get past Palace and Albion have to win their replay.'

So how strong would you go on Wednesday night considering the Final is so close? For me I'd go fairly strong, this is the FA Cup and to be fair, the players should be fit enough for the two games and also, what is better, get another game in and keep your mind off the nerves or to rest and do light training all week and maybe wind yourself up into a bag of nervous energy?!?!

Villa legend Ian Taylor has told the Birmingham Mail that this is a great chance for Villa to get back to Wembley in the FA Cup (first time since 2000). He said: “I’ve said for a few years that the cup competitions could be great for us. We’ve been hard to beat and as each round goes by the more confident you feel about making the final. Now we’re looking at these games thinking there’s no reason why we can’t get to the semi-final. I think it’s the best chance we’ve had since 2000 to win it with the team we’ve got and the way the draw’s opened up. I think we’ve got a great chance.' Full article: Click Here
