Thought Delph was fab, didn't let the occassion get to him, was tough in the tackle, ran all over the pitch, what a great buy MON, great prospect and one for years like a few others of our youngsters.

Who even voted for Sidwell?! He could only head the ball to a Utd player. Don't know why Delph was taken off when he was the 1st halfs best performer Delph and Cuellar were the two star players for me. Wasn't sure why Delph started but i'm glad he proved me wrong lol his positioning, attitude and skill was very good A.Young never seemed interested.

Should get another full game against Palace, so lets see how he does going from playing one of the best teams in the world to a championship side. I've got faith in the lad, seems a great player.

This kid is gonna be a massive player for us. I can remember the last time we had such a naturally talented, composed all action midfielder on our books. His first touch is just superb, also the way he playes the ball first time aswell without taking a touch - very Gerrard esq.

Stig - You mean Gerrardesque but without the dodgy court appearances, the permanently furrowed brow, crap accent and propensity to dive in the hope of getting a penalty or free kick??? Not to mention £6 haircut...

Agree completely with the votes for Fabian. That back heal he played on the left wing was absolute class. I was furious when he was brought off for Carew, we took a 1 man advantage and turned it into a 10v10 again. As soon as he came off it seemed we wanted to skip the midfield and looked a completely different side. For me we looked much better with Delph, deserves more time if you ask me.

Just thought we looked a much better side 4-5-1. Agree Delph was class, gives a bit more creativity in midfield than sideways Stan, who is composed but not creative enough for me to rate him as highly as others do. Thought Downing looked out of his depth, as I thought he did against Arsenal, but sincerely hope this is a confidence and fitness thing rather than ability! I still think the problem for us is a) unlocking the door (final ball) and b) for a team with celebrated wingers, we don't put enough quality balls (or enough full stop) into the box. If we're going to play Heskey or Carew, I would fine them every time they are not on the penalty spot moving forwards every time the ball comes in.

ljkal; Indeed. Cant wait to see Delph and Milner establish a partnership in the middle together. A fit petrov added to that in a 5 mad midfield would be vertually indestructable.

Who voted for Downing? He was pointless. Who voted for Sidwell? Seriously, do people just do it for the wind-up?

IMO, in two years Delph will be our best player, with regard Downing, i hope/think it is fitness, next season he will be a different player, I went onto a Middlesborough fan site a week ago and asked who was the better player, Johnson or Downing, they all posted to a man, Downing without a doubt, so i agree he is not great at the moment but deserves a pre season first and then be judged again after a third of next season. Milner wasn't that great when he first came and Petrov was awful for a year

Although Sidwell is unlikely to improve, which is disappointing, because that game at home to Reading a few years ago he ran all over Barry, but it may be his confidence is shot, with not playing at Chelsea and now not playing fo Villa either

Hope you're right about Downing, ant1. As for Sidders, many players have one game where they look like the best in the world, but can they keep it up? Wonder what Reading fans would say about him. If it is a confidence issue, I can't see Villa being the place to regain it, unless he gets a game today and puts in an absolute blinder - he's running out of chances and every game he plays in and fails is another nail in his career coffin and drains what's left of his confidence. Could be the turning point, though. I'm always ready for players to improve, but he has a long way to go. He just looks crap at the moment.

Oh yes, forgot. Delph brilliant. Looked like he was hungry, talented and he enjoyed it (none have applied to Sidwell since coming to Villa). Please MON, play both the Dels today. Give Gabby & Petrov a rest.
