Yorkie Bar Kid Wants Forgiveness

We had similar not so long back but the Official Site has more quotes from former Holte End hero Dwight Yorke asking for forgiveness and to remember the good times!

Yorke, still selling his book I assume, said 'I've said you've got to earn the right for the Villa fans to appreciate you and over the years I think I've done that. The fans made me one of their favourites because of my performance on the football pitch and my relationship with them.' Adding 'The Holte End was very special, when you've scored and you hear the celebration and they are singing your name it's amazing.'

Must admit, it was great fun singing along to the Dwight Yorke, Dwight Yorke (to the tune of New York, New York for the youngsters who won't remember, then again, if you are youngsters, you'll maybe not no that song either!) and see the Holte End swaying!

'I couldn't ask for a better club and Aston Villa will always be a very special part in my life and a club that I will continue to support and look out for.'

And on the forgiveness, he said he did have a special relationship and understands some won't ever forgive him for leaving.

'Hopefully the Villa fans will forgive me and see the reason why I moved on.'

You can't really argue that when he left he did win everything possible at club level, it was gutting to see the smiley yorkie bar kid in the Man Utd top and that season if he'd stayed, we did flirt with the top places ourselves, but hey, I'd rather focus on the young lad who became a star for us and ignore the sorry end!

Mixed reaction on the forum to this, as you'd expect, although there are plenty of us who focused on the great times, not the sad end! For the thread: Click Here (contains adult language)

I hate him. He sent his monkey over to my Mrs in Mechu to see if she wanted a drink. He never had the balls to do it himself! Total loser! Only a loser would use a monkey to do his dirty work!

I like to remember the good times but I was mighty miffed when he joined THEM on the other side of the city and made comments to the effect of them being the best team in Brum.

A fantastic player who was with us for 10 years or so and sold for 12 million. He did well out of Villa, but we did brilliantly out of him too. It's up to you Dwight Yorke DWIGHT YORKE! In other words nothing to forgive any more.

I agree with Stenny - he was great whilst he was with us and we made some good cash out of him when he left. Villa legend in my book.

Yorkie seems to bring out the marmite feeling. You either love him or hate him. I loved that mid 90's era when we were on the up, playing great football and winning trophies. The euphoria after he scored against Leeds in the Final of '96 was brilliant. The atmosphere the song generated was superb. My thoughts are that we should have a song that is sung with the same passion as the 'Dwight Yorke, Dwight Yorke' tune but about the Villa, not about a player. We could call it a club anthem. Has anybody ever mentioned us having a club anthem before??? Secondly, he went to Doug Ellis's house in tears, crying to be let go to join Manure. This means he was tapped up and should have been made to rot in the reserves and Manure should have been told to sling it and reported to the relevant authorities for an illegal approach. When he hadn't got his wish he threw his toys out of the pram and refused to even try in the next game (it was Everton away). Compare this to Gareth Barry who still gave his all to the club following a similar scenario. One had a great song, the other is a great professional. Anybody who physically cries like a baby to get away from the club loses all respect. I wonder if any of those who are saying they forgive Yorke, are the same people who slate Barry. They had similar situations except Barry dealt with his as professional. Yorke dealt with his situation like a big tit.

Never forget when Atkinson played him at right back, away at Wimbledon, fancy that a manager who plays random players at right back
