On a day where Martin O'Neill has talked about extending the January transfer window, presumably so we have longer to wait before realising that we in fact won't be signing anybody of note again, there is also a bit of bright news on the injury front.
With one eye on Spurs in the league on Saturday it is likely that both John Carew and Stiliyan Petrov will be fine to play at least some part in the game.
John Carew has returned to training, and did so a couple of days back and hasn't suffered any reaction to the little talked about knee injury he sustained at some point during the cold weather.
Petrov is being closely monitored, but O'Neill comments that he's 'keen' to play regardless of carrying his knock, so unlikely he'll be missing.
'In an ideal world this week would have given him a bit of a breather,' Monny told the Mail before explaining that our run in to the end of the season isn't going to give the players much time to recover during games, especially following our Xmas schedule suffering the 'snow' fate.
Five games this month is certainly going to take it's toll, especially as despite all the rotation talk from O'Neill at the start of the season we really haven't seen much of it at all. There's already five games scheduled for March as of yet we don't know when the Hull game will be rearranged for (unless I've missed something like normal) so the only extended rest the first team will get is following Burnley as we head into the Carling Cup Final.
Unless of course we see wholescale changes for the Palace FA Cup tie?
We are certainly going to find out if our lack of depth which last season was blamed on, has been rectified enough in the coming weeks aren't we.![]()
