Shore He Has No Villa Future

Nicky Shorey has joined Fulham on loan until the end of the season, with a deal in place for him to move permanently.

The Fulham official site has confirmed the move, although there's nothing on ours yet, and it states clearly that there is an option in place for them to buy the left back following the loan spell.

There are no indications of a fee, but it wouldn't be a leap of faith to assume we will lose money on the deal.

Shorey was pretty impressive whilst on loan at Forest, apart from a minor hiccup that saw him see a straight red, but it's been known for a long time that he had no future at the club so it's best for all parties he moves on.

Best of luck Nicky - you weren't nearly as bad as people have suggested.

Oh come now Fieldy he was rubbish. Best for all parties he moves on, just not good enough for the Mighty Villa!

He wasn't rubbish, sadly his face just didn't fit. Now confirmed on Villa OS who also confirm he was 'recalled' from Forest because of Warnock's injury. WHY???

shorey wasn't cack. he was actually pretty good, great even on the attack. defensively he just lacked a fraction. he was in our defence when we beat Arsenal last season and liverpool this season. perhaps it was a personality thing?

Seems a bit worrying if there's noone coming in. Only Cuellar/Dunne/Collins/Young at back with Shorey on loan, Beye off to Sunderland, Davies/Warnock/Bouma still injured.

I feel sorry for the lad - he was out in the cold at Villa Park barely after the ink had dried on his contract. Bizarre, even by O'Neill standards.

Bouma pencilled in for the reserves tonight probably says it all. Although always risky relying on a player who's had a long term injury, he'll be solid backup for warnock if he stays fit, and leaves shorey further surplus. Might aswell have him off the wage books.

I live in Nottingham and I’m surrounded by Forest fans. General consensus is he’s taken them from being an average championship team to an excellent one, and a couple of my mates are gutted that he’s gone to Fulham. That’s a pretty good effort for a LB, especially one who’s not played recently and probably doesn’t have much confidence at the moment. Having said all that, Warnock, Bouma and L.Young are definitely better :)

I didnt rate him at Reading, I was prepared to give him a go but didnt rate him to be frank. Best of luck to him at Fulham, unless he plays us

He was never any good for Villa because he is not 6ft 3. Luke is having problems being because he is not 6 ft 3 even though he is a better right back than Carlos.

He was probably called back from Forest and then loaned out to Fulham as Fulham would committ to taking him permanently at the end of the season and Forest would not, which is obviously better for us

Ah priceless... We have our right back playing left back. Our centre back playing right back. Our reserve left back is now on his way and our reserve right back is probably behind heskey for that position. Good thing we haven't had a problem with wing backs for the last 4 years... Oh wait we have! Thats why we need COVER.... So much for strength in depth...
