MON Delighted With Villa Win & Gabby Class

Martin O'Neill spoke to www.avfc.co.uk after our fantastic 2-0 win v Fulham singling out striker Gabby Agbonlahor for special praise.

Gabby, now on 12 goals this season (go on Gabby, you get beyond 20 for us, been a while since someone has, think the last was Yorkie wasn't it? Certainly the last striker in the league to get 20 was Peter Withe) got his just desserts according to MON adding 'I thought he played excellently today as well.'

And on the result, 'I'm delighted with the team today. I thought we deserved to win......Just to win today was a big boost for us.'

He also said to Sky Sports that Gabby took his chances 'magnificently' calling the second (a pass from Carlos Cuellar with much left to do) 'just absolute class.'

If you've not seen the goal, you are in for a treat on Match of the Day tonight.

MON added, 'It's three very valuable points for us in our quest to try and stay with the leading pack.'

He also says that Villa are looking to go on a run now to keep with or ahead of the rest of the chasing pack. 'Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Liverpool - you never write Liverpool off at all and they're still capable of winning four or five consecutive games. That is something that we're trying to do. A couple of times this season we've gone three or four and we would like to be able to do that. Then we would count ourselves a real, proper side.'

In an exclusive with Vital Villa, MON added '........'

One day maybe! :o)

One thing is for sure, Villa fans, team and manager will be smiling all the way home from London tonight.

We will have the welcome return of Glensider's expert away match reports to look forward to tomorrow as well.

Delighted for Gabby as he comes in for a fair amount of stick at times. He puts in bags of effort, and scores some very good & important goals, and he improves season upon season in my opinion. He is also one of us & never reacts to any criticism, just keeps on going doing his best for us. He does frustrate at times & is not the natural goalscorer we still require, but even with a great goalscorer I would still have Gabby in our team/squad. Well done lad, keep it up!!!!!

I'm pretty sure Angel manage 20 one season didn't he? Not sure which one, probably the year were still on for fourth on the last day. (20 goals overall that is, not league goals)

what a surprise. Villa win and only three comments! If we had lost we would see all the usuals lining up to tell us how useless Gabby and Heskey are. Brilliant result, makes up for last season when we got battered there!

Good win. Two goals that didn't rely on Gabby's natural pace as well. The first showed strength and the second a cool curled finish - nice one Gabby!

nice one. big win. still waiting for someone to complain that we didnt make a sub. lol. seriously though it would be great for the fringe players to get some time on the pitch but it seems like every game we play right now is a big game. wish heskey would justify his spot in the line-up but dam he just doesnt do much. up the villa.

Ok, 1982benny, I'll do it! First half was fantastic. We looked a class above and beyond Fulham and thoroughly deserved the two goal lead. Second half was a different matter with Fulham coming pretty close (great finish by that Elm kid and we were lucky he was offside). I really don't understand why he can't take the pressure off the defence by bringing on the likes of Delph. And before anyone starts, I really am NOT a MON knocker in anyway shape or form. Love the guy and think he's the man for the job but still think he should make the most of the bench as well as the first eleven.

What is simonbigron's problem? He comes on here to moan at the fans after we have had a great win? Some people are just strange!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic performance...thought we were the better team for he whole game. First half was played really well, first 25 mins of the 2nd we waited to counter attack and the final 20 we killed them off just keeping it solid. In no real danger it would have been nice to bring a sub or 2 on, but I think O'Neill is still nervous after that 4-4 game against Spurs a couple of seasons ago. Nice to kill a team off though after struggling too earlier in the season

Agree Jonah, some people just can't stop moaning even when there is nothing to moan about so have to moan at the fans who aren't even moaning. Enjoy the win and get over yourself Simonbigron.

what a surprise simonbigron, only negative comment comes from you once again and once again aimed at the site and fellow posters, are you a plant from another site to try to slag this one off or have I upset you somewhere in life? Give people a chance to get onto the computer and also if you had noticed, there were comments elsewhere on the match and a match day thread full in the forum. You say we are negative but ffs, I don't think you ever do anything but moan. If you don't like it here - and I'm sorry if that is the case - there are other sites, not as good I'll admit (LOL, sorry SB!) but there are other ones around. Chill out mate, stop having a go all the time.

We all know Gabby is capable of scoring goals. The only couple of things that lack from his game is reading his strike partner - a few times I have seen Heskey put through great balls and Gabby has failed to read the game. where most top strikers would have been on the end of it! And consistency in front of goal (ie West Ham). I'm sure all this will mature with age!
