VILLA 'Everything That Is Still Right In Football'
Our Vital Villa forum was visited yesterday by a Liverpool fan - Dragosani - wishing us well.
An opponent fan wishing us well. Why? Well, according to him Villa represent all that is right with the game.
The gent said:
'I hope you don't mind a Liverpool fan dropping in to say a few things.
I just wanted to say that I will be rooting for you to grab a champions league spot (even if it means Liverpool missing out, my issues with the current Liverpool team I won't bore you with!). I will also be rooting for you to win the Carling Cup final.
My reasons, I feel that Villa represent everything that is still right with English football, because there is a lot wrong with it now.
Villa represent a club that doesn't spend beyond their means. A club that doesn't try and buy success in a season but has made a slow steady improvement, as it should be.
A club that has both an honest and respected manager, but also a respected chairman.
A club that unlike so many in the Premiership has a strong mix of English players and finally a club that promotes a charity instead of a shirt sponsor.
I really like Villa, and I know many neutrals do as well. So here's wishing you every success this and future seasons, you deserve it.'
Thought it worthy of a wider audience, have to say I agree - I know, as Villa fan I would - that Villa are going about things the right way and do feel we have got a fair share of good will from fans at other clubs who appreciate a decent, well run club when they see one.
Nice to read that, will pass it on to the Villa management also!

Well I make no secret of my dislike for Liverpool but then a lot of my issues with them would tie in with some of their fans issues anyway! Fair play to the man for his comments (of which I agree but then I am biased) and for taking the time to do that at all to be honest. Good stuff!

Does make for nice reading that, especially in the wake of the latest £££££ import at Man City which again sort of undoes the good work and strong foundations Villa are trying to lay down!

get a grip simon, I post one joke and you jump on a negative vibe. Who published this thing from the Liverpool fan? I've just looked through the articles and can see very little negative, match reports, ticket info, fan interviews, banter, most negative thing is you not taking to a joke. :(

I favour this site as opposed to some 'terrible' other Villa fan sites who seem to thrive on negativity, mentioning no names ahem, Damian (a bluenose in disguise if ever there was one). I used to 'respect' Liverpool, just as I respect Man U & the Arse for they way they do things (moaning managers and the Glazers aside...). The 2 US clowns running Liverpool along with the 'tubby southern European food assistant' have ruined Liverpools reputation. UTV! And PLEEEEEEEAAZZZE let's start finding the back of the net boys!!!!

Thanks dragosani. I didn't enjoy being a Villa fan when Ellis was chairman but I have never felt bad. And now it's true that the Villa have much to be proud about. What's very sad for some other teams genuine fans is the ****s that run their clubs, the exploitation of fans, the flaunting of dodgy money and the behaviour of some of the players. Villa is among the best of a bad lot in pro football in 21st century. OK, I'm an old codger. I'll get my coat ...

i completely agree with our scouse friend, im a gooner but i have a large soft spot for Villa and especially MON. ive always had fantastic banter with my villain mates but im still looking good for my double or quits bet on who takes a champions league spot that ran over from last season! My first every football match was watching (much younger) MON lead my mighty home town Wycombe wanderers to FA trophy glory at Wembly in 91 and have looked favourably on all his teams since. Keep up the good work guys!

People did point to the Acorns deal and say its a publicity stunt and here we are 2 years dowwn the road and the publicity stunt is still running. People do take notice of these things, supporters are proud of the fact that Aston Villa support ACORNS 100% and when asked the supporters play their part by donating. Having spoken to a Chelsea supporter at the game at VP why was I not surprised to hear "his" club was now soulless and empty? All I can say is we are very lucky indeed that Randy Lerner came back after Initially walking away from the deal to take over the club.

ljkal, was that really necessary? As a US Villan I have to agree the Glazers are an embarrassment they are indeed clowns. But did you have to point out they're from the US? ;-)
