If You Could Bring Back 3 Villa Heroes?

Great thread in 100% Villa - well I think it is great anyway..!

Erod asked:

Seems to me we've been in this position many times, three class players short of a top side.

Will the board do what Ellis was never prepared to do....make Villa great?

As none of us are being paid millions a year to find these class players we cant be expected to know the market. However we all have our favourites from the past so I thought it might be fun to 'sign' three and see if we could make a side to compete for the title.

My first hero's were Sims and Dugdale so i have a few to choose from. I have chosen Cowan's, Little and Gray so my team is....

Friedel
Young Collins Dunne Warnock
Young Milner Cowan's Downing
Little Gray

Tough on Gabby but he would be first on the bench and would be equally at home playing with Little or Gray.

Messrs Carew and Heskey would be on their bikes.

Anyone got a better team ?

The team thing is always difficult, because I suddenly remember someone once I post it, but Little, Mortimer and Cowans would be in it

The one player this current team is missing is an out and out goal scorer. But, thinking back many years, I begin to wonder if Villa have ever had such a player in my lifetime, and I can remember the team of the late forties. Perhaps Trevor Ford as the striker, but certainly Little and Cowans would be in my pick.

I think we're more than 3 players short of a team that could challenge for the title. And there are alot of Villa fans who only started supporting Villa in the 90s and never saw the 80s team.My team of the last 20 years is 3-5-2 ala Brian Little, Bosnich,God,Laursen,Southgate,A Young,Milner,Barry,Platt,Taylor (Should probably have Townesend instead),Yorke,Dublin. Manager MoN. Team to get relegated.... formation 7-2-? ala O Dreary. Enkleman,Samuel,De Le Cruz,Alpay,Drobny,Leonhardsen,Berson,Jemba-Jemba,Curcic,Balaban,Fashnu. Manager O Dreary.

No matter how good we think the current defense is, Paul McGrath has got to be first on the list. Then I would go with a partnership of Peter Withe and Gary Shaw up front. Goals a plenty!

Change my mind every two minutes, but in the thread last night I settled on: Mortimer, Little, Merson.
Friedel
Young Collins Dunne Warnock
Young Milner Mortimer Downing
Merson
Little

Petrov is a good option from the bench + rotation. Gabby is still developing, he'd get his chances!

Milner and Mortimer would be tough in the centre (Andy Townsend is another I'd love back, arrggghhhh!) and then Merson a free ish role behind Little and when needed up front with Little.

Friedal Young, Cuellar, Dunne, Warnock Young, Milner, Taylor, Downing Yorke, Little Probably more technically gifted players than Taylor available, but he is my Villa Hero. Honourable mentions, Platt, Merson, Little, Cowans, Shaw, McGrath, Bosnich

ive only jst turned 23 so mid 90s is my memorys. Wud love an injury free Delaney at right back, always slid in wen needed and could overlap and cross. Super Tommy Johnson (original ginga ninja) the goalscoring mid we are lacking and Yorke to partner Gabby. Wud all fit in wit Oneill attacking style

To bring back happy memories and because we need players that can score goals so i'd go for Brian Little and Andy Gray and for a bit of class Gordon Cowans .
