Shorey Not Being Shipped Out

Martin O'Neill has confirmed that Nicky Shorey isn't going anywhere on a permanent deal at the moment, after refusing Forest permission to use him in the FA Cup.

Speaking to a number of journalists O'Neill commented that he isn't thinking of selling Nicky Shorey despite his struggle to make a mark at Villa, and his form for Notts Forest since moving to them on a short term loan deal.

'Selling Nicky is not something that I am looking to do at this minute.'

Whilst Shorey has done well in the league for Forest, he isn't being allowed to play in any Cup games as O'Neill clearly doesn't want him cup tied given our progress this season and O'Neill is still looking at Nicky to fight for his place at Villa following the arrival of Warnock.

He further adds that Villa have had people at every game he's played, and have got the matches on DVD to see how he's getting on.

'I think going forward he has done very well and if he tightens up his game defensively, he has loads to offer - and I think he has tried to do that.'

Not a bad little player and not bad on the ball BUT not good enough defensively and not big enough physically. MON seems to be doing a Redknapp and talking him up to raise his price also. If he said he was crap then we wouldn't get any money for him..

What about if I offered you Nicky Shorey in a straight swap deal for your car?

Good, hope he still has a future at Villa but at the very least keep him until we have more cover. I quite like Shorey, at least he has tried to get forward etc, maybe not the best at the back but still a good squad member.

Does this mean further doubt about the return of Bouma?

It's all about Bouma for me. He was brilliant for ts till Djemba-Djemba broke him. What's the latest on his return? If/when he does come back that has to be the end for Shorey. He's not a bad player by any means but Warnock and Bouma are gonna slug it out for left back so not sure where that leaves him.

krfeskivilla I agree I cant see Freddie playing for us again, Eduardo's foot nearly came off, yet he is playing again! I know its a different injury Freddies got but I would've thought he'd be back by now. I hope I'm wrong. But I do like Shorey too would be happy to keep him.

Claretandbluearmy: If memory serves he's recovered from the initial injury but picked up a toe injury whilst on the comeback trail.
