Seven Days of Villa (2)

Monday, 4th January

Andreas Weimann gets a new contract until 2012. He isn't a bad little player but I am a little bit surprised at that to be honest. Also, there is plenty of discussion about the game tomorrow; some of it the standard pre-game talk (although that talk is bigger than usual given that it's a semi-final) and some with concern as to whether or not the game will be on.

Tuesday, 5th January

People were right to be concerned, as the game is postponed for health and safety reasons. In other news, MON says that Fabian Delph will not be available for a loan spell.

Wednesday, 6th January

Yesterdays game has a confirmed rearranged date of Thursday, 14th Jan. In transfer talk, we are linked with moves for Kris Boyd of Rangers, Jermaine Beckford of Leeds and Gareth Bale of Spurs. I don't think any will happen to be honest, especially the latter. In terms of outgoings, Marlon Harewood is linked with a move back to West Ham. Can't see that happening either!

Thursday, 7th January

A few places seem to indicate that a swap between John Carew and Robbie Keane - a swap deal between Villa and Spurs being mooted in the media? No, really?! - is imminent. Probably because it was on the back of the Daily Star. Hmmm... Meanwhile, the official site says that the game against Wigan is definitely ON.

Friday, 8th January

Or not. While the area around the ground is deemed safe enough for the fans, the undersoil heating at the ground has broke. A pitch inspection is due for tomorrow. Oh and the Carew/Keane swap rumours? They've been completely dismissed by both Villa and Spurs.

In shocking news, the Togo team bus - including our very own Salifou - comes under attack from gun fire on their way to the African Cup of Nations. Thankfully he is unhurt but not everybody on the bus gets away unharmed; three of the people on the coach died and others were hurt. Plenty will be written about this but I have to ask one question... Why in the hell did the organisers not know where the Togo team were and how they were travelling? If the organisers can not guarantee safety and get better control of the movement of the people involved then they should not be allowed to host the tournament - it really is that simple.

Saturday, 9th January

The Wigan game is officially called off. Also, MON says that we will NOT be making any more signings. I genuinely have no issue with that - I can not see the point in signing players that are not better than what we have given the size of the squad - but I am sure this will lead to some people having serious panic attacks.

Sunday, 10th January

Further to the lack of transfer activity, MON has said that he has a lot of belief in Marc Albrighton, Ciaran Clark and Nathan Delfouneso. I do too! That said, the papers still link us with Kenwyne Jones! Pleasingly, the club confirm that Salifou and the rest of the Togo contingent are on their way home.

Hopefully there will be a game or two to look back on next week! See ya!

awful isn't it? Finding it very difficult to find anything of interest for articles without just re-hashing stuff.

No football has it's benefits. My wallet feels an awful lot heavier for one.
