Where Will Villa Finish Without New Signings?

Ok, with the lack of a game and so no man of the match, I thought I'd ask a quick update on where you think we'll finish this season, especially following the news that it appears there will be no further signings for the rest of this season. (See: No January Transfers Expected SHOCKER!? )

Last time we asked was:

Where will Villa finish the season?

Poll Date: 07 Dec 2009
Suggested By: Lee Lindsay

5th place in Europa League 38%
Champions League position 1-4 29%
6th again 24%
7-10th 9%
10-14th 0%
Gulp, 15th or below 0%

And before that was just before the season kicked off which if you remember was before we got the defence sorted and brought in Richard Dunne from Manchester City and James Collins from West Ham:

As things stand, where will we finish next season?

Poll Date: 11 Aug 2009
Suggested By: JP Fear

7th-10th...bad 38%
6th 21%
5th 16%
4th...yay! 12%
1st 2nd or 3rd 10%
18th-20th...disaster 2%
11th-17th...gulp 1%

Our win/lose/draw poll v Wigan had confidence high before their under soil heating packed up and the game was called off by the way, the results were: Win 49% Thrash them for revenge 24% Draw 19% Lose 8%

We are 6th at the moment and I think that will be as good as it gets , it is more likely we'll be 7th behind Liverpool than 4th above the rest . We simply don't have the fire power now. Never mind if Gabby picks up a knock. I hope we make top 4 of course I do but I just don't see it if I'm honest,

To be honest oxfordspur we don't care that you don't care. Why even bother commenting on a Villa site that you, a Spurs fan don't care about Aston Villa. Of course you don't care. Why should you?

We'll finish sixth, below Liverpool and Spuds, but crucially above Small Heath

we could be top 4 playing to our capabilities all the time but we sometimes fall way short of that. This year however the top 7 all seem to be playing in this way so even with no signings its wide open.Being optimistic though i still think 5th will be a good result.

Chelsea, United, Arsenal, Citeh, Spuds, Villa, Red Scouse I reckon BUT Villa will win Carling Cup and MAYBE FA Cup, then that WILL be a good season!

Really it all depends on luck with injuries and suspensions! I think this break has been good as pretty much we needed to re group IMHO. Our cup runs are a diversion but it would be nice to reach either final. Would love us to go on a strong run now and raise confidence throughout, that is all SHA are playing on afterall! They will drop away to mid table anyway. For me I hope for 4th, expect 5th and would be miffed at 6th or worst given our squad depth this time around. UTV.

The league is really open, why cant we finish in the top 4? Got a better squad than last season, the top teams have come more towards our level, go for it

I'll take 6th again if it means we win one of the cups

I'm going to stick my neck out & predict 3rd place, a decent run in the FA Cup & League Cup silverware. I'm also going to predict a decent points return in March (I know it sounds crazy. I suppose some will think we are lucky that the League Cup Final is on the last day of Feb.)

agreed 5th or 6th if we can win a bit of silverware would make for a decent season. Would love Stu to be right though, who knows, so many around us seem to be self destructing, we just have to get back on track now, losses to Arsenal and Liverpool aren't disasters unless we make them so.

We are 3 points off same point last season at the moment, if he doesn`t get a striker who is top class then 6-9th for me

Feel we will finish 6th/7th...squad is defo stronger & defence looking very good...got a few good options in the midfield too...But without the lock picker we desperately need & lack of real firepower, I dont feel we will be top 4 after 38 games...one off games in the cup we can match anyone i feel, so hoping for 6th & silverware...

Don't know where we'll finish but I reckon we'll end the season with 67 - 71 points. That would have got 5th in each of the last three seasons. BUT the big 3/4/5 are not picking up as many easy points as previously, so 4th is certainly possible.

Think I agree with the majority and predict a 6th / 7th place finish as a result of lack of firepower. The optimist in me hopes however that Young will have last season in reverse and be on fire in the second half, and that Downing will begin to look like the player he was at boro, if that happens top four is realistic
