Villa's away clash with Wigan is... OFF!
Todays trip to Wigan has been postponed due to malfunction of the pitch under soil heating.
The match was all set to go ahead with Wigan officals having put their hands in their pockets to prepare the stadium and surrounding roads. After working throughout the night in conditions that reached as low as -10 degrees, engineers had been attempting to repair the system but with the parts they needed unavailable at such short notice, they were unsuccessful.
Match referee Stuart Atwell inspected the pitch at 8.30 this morning and deemed the surface too frozen for the players to play on.
Even if the club could get the right parts needed to repair the heating system, their is now simply not enough time for the pitch to thaw out.
This is now obviously the second match in 5 days that Villa have had postponed and is only going add to already massivley increasing fixture pile up.
The offical site tells us to stay tuned for the rearranged fixture to be announced.
No Villa for a whole week? I'm off to end it all.

This is very worrying. I remember the big freeze in 1963. Villa were seventh at Christmas 1962. After the thaw, in March, we went on a run of 11 (eleven!) consecutive defeats. Couldn't happen again could it?

I was hoping that you were going to wipe the smugness off the faces of the spuds fans, but with the game off, I don't think the ground staff could have done more, i think it is likely that the surrounding area of the ground have been considered unsafe by the police and local authority and that is out of control of the football club.
