Salifou Shocked But Unhurt In Bus Gunning

An awful incident has occurred involving the Togo team bus in the African Cup Of Nations.

Moustapha Salifou has come out unhurt following a gunman opening fire on the bus carrying the team to the tournament.

It has been reported that Salifou has assured his brother that he is ok:

Salifou said: 'I am okay but extremely shocked and very upset.'

Sadly it appears that the bus driver has been killed and there are six seriously injured.

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor was also on the bus and is also uninjured.

Awful, just awful. Makes you fear for what might happen at the World Cup doesn't it?

> Makes you fear for what might happen at the World Cup doesn't it? Not really. Angola is over 1500 miles away from South Africa - just because it's on the same continent, it doesn't mean it's a similar place. It's 1500 miles from London to Moscow - if there was an incident in Russia, would you doubt England's ability to host a World Cup?

I really hope people don't come out with any stupid comments, I've seen a lot of them from Arsenal fans re Adebayor. At the end of the day it was bloody horrible what happened, and the death of the driver really brings home just how awful it was. The fact is this tournament shouldn't even be on; as horrible as it is to hear about, what is just as horrible is how it is not even surprising.

Thoughts go out to the family of the dead, can't see this being the last incident though unfortunately.

Don't think anyone would be disrespectful enough to come out with any 'funny' comments Sheriff, be assured if anyone prints anything in the article comments out of order they will be removed.

Thanks for the geography lesson Ian, maybe the line was a bit throwaway the way it was worded BUT the point very much remains, there were major security worries ahead of the WC anyway, things like this will only serve to add to them, where better to make your point than a major world tournament where the eyes of the world will be focused? Must admit (perish the thought) surprised games haven't been targetted before by the cretinous extremists who like to spread their hate filled doctrines to the majority of good normal people.

looked 'angry' that response Ian, you know me so know it wasn't. I meant :o) after 'thanks for the geography lesson' and do take your point, just there were major fears before, that won't have lessoned with this sort of incident at another large tournament.

I believe Togo have now pulled out of the African Cup of Nations. Not surprised. Lets hope the rest remaining are able to remain safe.

I heard the assistant manager and the press man have also now died - tragic but they must hold the competition, it means so much to the African continent!
