Villa Lose Star to African Cup of Nations

Aston Villa`s legendary midfielder Moustapha Salifou has dealt a blow to the league and cup domination plans laid out by Villa boss Martin O`Neill as he jets off to Angola for the African Cup of Nations.

Star Salifou, 26, has amassed an amazing 0 minutes this season for the Claret & Blue first Xi, truly showing the worthiness of his nickname "The Togolese Zidane" and like so many big teams, Villa will undoubtedly suffer from his absence.

It is not quite known what Salifou`s actual purpose at Villa Park is these days (although if I may be serious briefly, he did attend a squad visit to an ACORNS hospice in Walsall) however it was rumoured that he may well have been the towel whipping boy, parking steward for Doug Ellis` Roller, or possibly and most likely, a paperweight on Martin O`Neill`s desk.

The former FC Wil powerhouse joins up with fellow Togolese stars Emmanuel Adebayor and Assimiou Tore for the tournament that begins on the 10th January with hosts Angola taking on Mali.

Salifou & Co. start their quest for glory against Ghana on the 15th. I will endeavour to keep an eye on our legend Mous as the tournament progresses.

Sing song anyone?

I prepared some words for this event if you don't mind ..... Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone, Silence the pianos and with muffled drum Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come. Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead, Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves, Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves. He was my North, my South, my East and West, My working week and my Sunday rest, My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song; I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong. The stars are not wanted now: put out every one; Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun; Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood. For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Poor Salifou. He doesn't deserve to be beaten up like that.

I hope he doesn't leave before tomorrow. I've put my life savings on him as first goal scorer v Blackburn.

He seems to help the reserves, which helps the kids come through, I wish I had been half as good to play at that level!!
