'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Young Delighted With Cup Progress

Ashley Young felt he has a point to prove in our match against Blackburn after missing out on the Liverpool defeat.

After picking up another yellow card, we all knew Young would sit out the Liverpool clash and being fair to him he hasn't been firing on all cylinders so far this season, so to come back and put in the performance he did against Blackburn was very well received.

Not only was his personal performance much better and he looked more like the Ash of old, but we have him to thank for two of the goals.

Speaking on the Official Site Young said:

'I was disappointed to miss the Liverpool game and I just wanted to get out there and play.

'It's about putting it (the ball) in an area for the boys to get on the end of and the two boys got on the ones that they scored.'

He adds that he thinks the win was comfortable in the end, although Blackburn didn't make it easy, especially after Diouf was sent off.

But as ever the bottom line is we got through and played some decent football, which is all you can ask for isn't it.

If he plays as well tomorrow as he did on Saturday then I'll be happy with that. Hopefully it's a return to the Ash of old.

Certainly showed some moments of total quality on Saturday, even though he wasn't playing at the top of his game, he refused to hide from the ball and that was great to see as I did worry his miss might play heavy on his mind. Quality.

I thought the miss (which was woeful) put a black mark on his performance but his determination really shone through and majority of his deliveries were excellent.
