Thursdays Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk

Thursdays Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk

Several papers today including the Guardian and The Mail are claiming that Villa are in the chase along with Spurs and Liverpool to sign 29-year-old West Ham midfielder Scott Parker.

The Guardian say that O'Neill wants a 'real' holding player and see's Parker as the man to take the role currently undertaken by Stiliyan Petrov who as many will know, used to be more of an attacking midfielder whilst at Celtic. The Mail say that Parker isn't adverse to moving out of London but does appear to favour remaining in the Capital.

The Guardian also claim that Fulham are interested in Nigel Reo-Coker but say that Villa will want a replacement in first.

The Daily Mail repeat yesterday's links for Craig Gardner to Wolves or Blues. (see: Craig Gardner In Transfer Tug Of War?)

The Daily Mail also claim Villa and Manchester City both want 18-year-old West Bromwich Albion defender Paul Downing.

There is also still some talk that Villa are after former Liverpool and Blues winger Jermaine Pennant despite Villa distancing themselves from the report a few weeks ago.

parker is better than reo-coker imo but will MON pay out that sort of money for a 29 year old with a temper? would be a decent signing though

Parker, Petrov, Sidwell, Gardner, Reo-Coker......all as good as each other!!! The midfield of Milner, Downing and Young needs a top quality 'hard man' enforcer type, of which there are very few about....how about we send our scouts out for a bit and have a look across Europe.....or is that too much to ask!!!

We dont need a defensive midfielder, we need a striker who can also play on the wing!
