Defeat Hard To Take Says Monny

Martin O'Neill described last nights defeat to Liverpool as 'very hard to take' because he firmly believed we did enough to win the game.

Speaking on the Official Site following the 0-1 loss Monny bemoaned a lack of luck for the defeat, pointing to all the chances we had to wrap the game up.

'We should have won the game. Not only did we not win it, we lost it. It was hard to take.'

O'Neill looked distraught on the touchline as Torres nicked the winner on 93 minutes, and was left simply to promise we would get back to winning ways following our last two games.

'Someone asked me after the game - has it been a poor Christmas? Well of course it has, because we have lost both games,' and without looking for excuses O'Neill did point to two games in 48 hours, with Liverpool having a little more rest - but was quick to point out even allowing for that he thought we finished strongly.

The debates about strikers, Carew, and hoofball have already begun so I'll leave those to others. I'd only be repeating myself.

carew just missed a header, downing inches away, gabby chose the wrong foot to kick with.... we were not that far away from winning it, so you can understand MON feeling annoyed.... but i don't think going into some negative rant about it is the way forward...

there wasn't much else we could do, liverpool are a great team and we were better than them for most of the game. we definatly need a new centre forward i have never rated Gabby at all, but MO'N is an absolute genius, there is noone else i'd prefer at the helm. We were always going to have a low point everyone is jumping on it as if it means we are out of the race for a champions league spot. but it is 6 points, if we go on another run like the last couple of months we will be looking pretty good again. i don't think our rebuilding process is as far as other teams and realistically, a champions league spot would be an overachievement. however i still think we can do it if we keep playing a well as we can, it would be a lot easier with a great CF. I think that will be on the shooping list this summer.

I do agree with some who say we need a big name - if only to get bums on seats!
