Hughes Dunne The Wrong Deal

Jamie Redknapp believes that recently sacked Man City manager Mark Hughes gave Villa the signing of the season when he sold Richard Dunne to us.

Quoted on the Official Site the former Liverpool midfielder in his Daily Mail column picked Dunney as his top transfer of the season.

'Has there been a better signing this season than Richard Dunne? None have made a bigger impact than Irish powerhouse Dunne.'

It's hard to disagree, whilst Barry was our major loss we've slowly found a Plan B (almost) and to be fair, Dunne's erm done a better job for us than his replacement has for Man City so far.

Does Hughes wish he'd have stuck with him - possibly? But I don't care, he's ours!

Rumour has it that Barry is one of the collection of English players at Man City unhappy at the departure of Hughes, I know it would never happen but imagine if O'Neill put a cheeky bid in for him in the January window

2fish, not the most unlikely scenarios by any means, we loaned liverpool robbie keane for 6 months, they paid all his wages and then give us 6 million on top, hehe............who said scousers had no business sense.

I did not think there could be someone in charge of a football club that is as smart as to force Richard Dunne out even when he wanted to stay and pay over 20 million for Lescott. but i have been proved wrong.

paddypower, i would say that Giving robbie Keane back to us was a smart decision by pool. He is still contributing to them by hindering our chance of reaching top 4. it could potentially save them a lot of Champions league money:-)

Villa have moved on, there's no place for Barry here even if he did want to come back... but let's be honest, there's no way he'd come back with his tail between his legs. Too much water under the bridge.

Quote from Barry this summer: "Barry also revealed he sought assurances from City's owners that boss Mark Hughes's future was not in doubt. He said: 'I've seen it before. Players join clubs then two months later the manager is gone and their future is uncertain. 'That was the last thing I wanted to happen here.'

Im not sure how much choice hugjes had in replacing dunne with lescott. At that time lescott was fashionable (playing for england, scoring goals etc.) and dunne wasn't; therefore a board/owner with business sense and cash, but probably lacking football knowledge, thought it was a good idea. Their loss... :)

There's no doubt Barry would improve our squad even though we have moved on since he's gone. I just don't think he'd consider coming back here. He probably still has belief that Cit£h will come good and also he feels aggrieved by some fans reaction to him. During our game against them at VP it was notable how Dunne didn't celebrate his goal but Barry punched the air when they equalised.

This is NOT going to happen, BUT I do think that in the longer term GB may live to regret his decision not to stay at VP, although his bank manager will be delighted. MON has already stated we probably won't be bringing any players in during January, unless some leave. The type of player we need now is not Gareth Barry, but more like the forementioned Robbie Keane, or maybe Ruud van Nislteroy?

If he's got any sense Rafa will make funds available for a bid for GB. On transfers; if we sell Nicky Shorey would we sell him to Spuds? (I heard that rumour the other day)
