'If It's Football, It's Vital'

An Interview With A Stoke Fan

1) So how is the season treating you so far? Thoroughly enjoyed watching your game v Wigan, you certainly seem to be cementing your place in the Premiership at the moment?

I think we're doing great, but I'm a born pessimist so I'm waiting for the collapse in the second half of the season! Some fans have higher expectations (too high?) and think the we should be heading for Europe if we hadn't dropped so many points from winning positions. We're certainly more confident now that we can hold our own in the League and that means that our football is not quite so 'negative' as last season.

2) Have you the right manager now with Tony Pulis and what did you all make of the James Beattie incident, was it handled correctly or do you think he'll be sold off now?

Pulis is God! He has his doubters who are just waiting for him to slip up, but so far he's hardly put a foot wrong. We loved every twist and turn of the Beattie saga, but it seems to be last week's chip wrapper now and it's water under the bridge. The only problem was how it got into the media but I think Beatts will stay and get a contract extension which is what he really wants.

3) Realistically what are your expectations as a Stoke fan? At this moment?

Just to stay up. Give us a couple more years of stability and who knows?

4) Any opinions on Villa and Martin O'Neill? Or should say I say any polite ones?!

Great win against United. Both Villa and Spurs seem to be destined to slug it out for the fourth slot that's been vacated by Liverpool this season.

5) If you could have a player or two of ours, who would it be and why?

Gabby Agbonlahor. Our strikers (Fuller, Beatts, Tuncay and Sidibe) may just be past their peaks but Agbonlahor seems to be coming along well and his best may well be yet to come.

6) Who would you send our way in exchange?!

Sorry, you've just missed out on Richard Cresswell to replace Agbonlahor as he seems destined for Leeds.

7) Where do you think you'll finish this season and if you have any interest at all, where will Villa finish?

I'd be very happy with another mid table finish and it'll be a straight fight between you and Spurs for 4th as Man City will not do any better than 6th.

8) Go on then, lets have your score prediction?

Just like last season at Villa Park - another 2-2 draw but hopefully we won't leave it to the last three minutes to score both goals. Have your lot been practising their penalties?

2-2? Phsst! Other than your horribly wrong prediction, good interview.

This game may be the hardest of the past week. It is not the easy match that the bookmakers odds would have you believe. Different topic but I wonder Fear if you could help us keep updated on the progress of the young players out on loan at the moment. It'd be good to know how they are getting on.

This is the easiest match of the week by far. Have you seen their away record? 7 points from possible 24 (3 of those in a flukey win against Spurs). Only 4 goals scored in those 8 games. A '3 clear goals win' against this lot - no problem.

Gordonsleftboot, will try to front page some of that excellent forum thread when I get the chance, good shout and thanks Bangkok for pointing it out, appreciated.

I hate games people think will be easy! Stoke will be no pushover, still very hopeful though, especially if we get the crowd behind Villa.

We owe ourselves from last years collapse. That game was the start of the demise IMHO, not the Moscow fiasco . All changed in a walk back to the car as I left with 4 mins to go. Dunne would never let it happen nowadays though with his experience ( hopefully.)

Must win game, it will be a tough battle but we're playing at home after all. Dropped points on Saturday would mean all the effort of the past 2 games is wasted. Its time to turn the screw now and position oursleves perfectly for the Arsenal and Liverpool games.

Great to read on the official site the article with milner about banishing last seasons memories, shows the players want to right the wrongs. Hopefully a hard fought 3 points on saturday and unbeaten against arsenal and liverpool giving us a superb return for the first half of the season

Definitely not confident - only because it's Villa!!! Not liking the record we have against them last year, and I'll never forgive them. Even spurs lost at home to Wolves...Ya never know. Sod it...4-1!

Like the confidence Class of 82, but I don't think we can write this off as an easy game. Hasn't stopped me putting money on it mind you.

I would go for 2-0 to the Villa, not an easy win but I think the lads will be up for it. UTV

Lol, Fear. Every team we play you say 'they will be no push over.' Sometimes it's nice to get carried away. Not all the time mind.

thing is the ones we think we'll stroll are the ones we feck up, we always have, they aren't to be taken lightly ever in my opinion. Just look at the Cardiff game, could have gone so very differently the way we and they played. YOu can't just turn up and expect a win and against Stoke our lads will know that i'm sure!
