A Real Goodbye To Carlos Cuellar?

Only bit of transfer talk for Aston Villa that I can see today is by James Nursey in The Mirror.

He is linking Villa and former Rangers centre back Carlos Cuellar to Real Madrid.

Carlos didn't really wow many last season and to be fair to him he was played at right-back more than his favoured central role so didn't get the chance to show us what he could do. This season he has at times been simply outstanding.

Real Madrid? Well, if they come calling and a player wants to go, no team in the world can stop it happening just as Manchester United who are one certainly goofy Christiano Ronaldo short this season.

Also Carlos is Spanish, it would surely be the peak of his career and I would doubt that Martin O'Neill would block the deal IF the right money can be agreed. We still have the great summer buys of Richard Dunne and James Collins plus former Baggies boy Curtis Davies to return in January following his shoulder injury.

carlos

The article says that the form of Madrid born Carlos should see him called up to the Spanish national side next year and that Real Madrid are having him watched.

Apparently Real Madrid are in the market for a new defender following the injury to 26-year-old Pepe who could be out for up to six months with anterior cruciate ligament damage.

I'm sure Cuellar does love life at Villa, but if there is any truth in the rumour and Real Madrid do want him, he will go. For any player, let alone a Spaniard from Madrid, to play for Real is the ultimate. I really don't want this to happen, but if it does, we must screw the best deal possible. Van Nistleroy and Van der Vart in exchange? We do have cover at centre back, although Carlos has been superb this season.

Although Carlos has been simply amazing for us this season, I must say I'd take either of those swap deals for him, krfeski! MON is a smart guy, and if they do come calling in January, I'm sure he'll find the best deal possible for both him, and villa. Best of luck to him on the international front, too. He deserves it. Come on Carlos!

Why is it all the beards end up breaking our hearts! If he gets the chance and the money is right I am sure he'll go to Real. It would be a dream move for him. If he turned it down, he'd be even more of a bearded legend than he is now!

“And of course in Scotland it was really impossible to understand people!” Cuellar’s football and language skills may have developed but so has his cult status amongst Villa fans. He regularly visits schools to help English youngsters with their Spanish skills which has won over an army of young fans while supporters enjoy his honest, hard work on the field. “Everyone I meet is happy with all the players and the results,” Cuellar said. “They are not just a fan of one player but I am being noticed more now and getting very good comments from people. “When I am out on the street now people say “Well done” and “Keep going” This is nice and is a good relationship because you are living the dream.” Cuellar admits it was a boyhood dream to be a footballer and sees this as his best season yet with critics back in Spain suggesting he could even force his way into Spain’s squad for the World Cup Finals in South Africa next summer. “I am living my dreams every day,” he said “If I had not been a footballer I might have worked in economy – I love business and was good at maths at school.

truly happy for him. seemed to be written off last year just really glad he has gotten his chance to shine this year in his proper position although i think he has done a good job when asked to play right back to. seems to have a great attitude especially the comments about not caring what position he plays just wants to be in the team. if madrid come calling obviously it would be hard to begrudge him that move but it would be a shame to see him go as he seems to genuinly love the game and love our club.

It's an interesting rumour to say the least. As already said I wouldn't begrudge him the move and I hope he stays but I think £20m is pushing it a bit.

I'd say it would have to be £20m, everyone costs more in Jan. Part-chop as mentioned above with one or both vans plus cash would be cool. Clark as fourth CB

I think he has been playing well, but the guy can't pass, he can pass it short.. just.. but I notice he is very much a 'hoofer' if a pass is too difficult, he hoofs it, comes straight back for Villa to defend, thus making him look good! I really cant see Madrid buying him for this reason... all the best sides pretty much play it out of defence.. If they want him, and the money is right, I say sell! be good business..

Van Der Vart and RVN would be an excellent deal, we don't need money because we are finding it hard to attract players, but Van Der Vart will give us so much life in midfield and RVN can show our strikers how to score.
