We MUST Take Advantage Of Liverpool Slip

krisvilla says Villa have to take advantage of Liverpool's poor form and replace them.

It's been a while since I posted, but after the incredible win at Old Trafford, I felt compelled to type something.

After watching the Liverpool - Arsenal game today, I cant help but think, Liverpool are looking one unhappy team. How many times have they lost this year, already? well I'll tell you, SIX times already!

We must take advantage, it might be as good a time as any to try and grab that 4th place, Man City are drawing all over the place, Spurs are not showing any consistency.. Villa keep picking off the big teams, show a little more consistency against the 'lower teams'.. it's looking rather good.

The defence has been exceptional, only Chelsea has a better record, and we are up there with goals scored.

Come January as people have noted on this website, a signing may help keep things fresh, but without any European games, and with more strength in the team, with a bit of luck on the injuries, I am very hopeful we do not fall away again, with or without a new signing or two.

I know you may say too early to tell, but I think it's not a bad position Villa are on, at this moment in time, let's hope lessons were learned.

On a side note, I was thinking of Liverpool's current plight, and I can't help but think Monny/Randy were the architects. I think Benitez showed some arrogance in talking about Gareth Barry signing, probably thinking it will be a done deal. I don't think he banked on the stubborn resistance, from Monny and Randy, about selling Barry. By this time he had unsettled Alonso with talk of Barry and the relationship obviously never recovered, one of Liverpool's key players... who had a great season last season. Off he went to Madrid at the end, and Man City then bought Barry very early.. leaving Benitez with a headache.... ..

Again obviously other factors have contributed to Liverpool's form, but the transfer saga has not helped them at all.

On the flipside, Villa do not seemingly, on current form, to be missing Barry all that much. It would be nice to have him, but a developing Milner in the central role, and Downing looking good.. we have covered that loss.

well said, things are starting to feel quite positive and far more solid than they have for a good while at Villa. Still can't get too carried away, had far too many heartbreaks over the years so want to keep my feet on the ground until I see us lift the silverware Villa are so overdue!

Had the same thought as you Kris on the Barry/Alonso situation - and I think this is having a major impact on them. I definitely think (unless they start to click again) that this year one of us, Spurs, or Man City have a cracking chance to sneak in. We've got to start beating the other teams though - starting with Sunderland, which will not be easy...

Villan57, we have scored 26 goals so far, considering our defence, that aint a bad total, could score more though, I agree... thats the difference.. I suppose... the traditional top 4 always boast a good GD

The whole Barry / Alonso thing has blatantly effected LFC. Benitez messed up big time over that. He's even admitted he bought Keane (and sold him again) as he felt he would work well with Barry and it was clear this was the reason Xabi felt unwanted. The Fat Spanish Waiter had based all of his plans on the signing of GB and it has back fired most magnificently. Brilliant!! ;)
