Sunday Transfer Talk For Aston Villa

Sunday Transfer Talk For Aston Villa

Ok, now the rumours are starting, only slightly but hey ho!

One interesting one is in The People today. They claim that Tottenham will look to sell around four players in the January transfer window. There were reports in the week quoting Daniel Levy suggesting that any arrivals will have to be funded by departures and so the press were always going to start on the usual suspects for a good story! (He said at Spurs AGM: 'We do not envisage being very active in the January transfer window, although we will take note of any opportunities that arise. That is with the proviso, however, that we do not envisage any net spending.)

They claim that Robbie Keane, Roman Pavlyuchenko, David Bentley and Alan Hutton could all be allowed to leave. Funnily enough all four have been linked to us at one point or other over the last year. Wonder if any there would be of interest still? Not sure how many wingers you could possibly fit into a team, so surely not Bentley, not unless he comes at a bargain price after a reported fall out with Appy Arry? Robbie Keane? Well, we nearly had him years ago (the myth is Doug wouldn't stump up the extra £500k but to be fair, that was wrong, it was John Gregory who decided having watched him a few times that he wasn't quite worth the money Wolves wanted because every time he saw him play, he had an off day). The other two I'd doubt. Not sure that MON is in the market at all for a striker though, we have Nathan Delfouneso who will at some stage get his chance, Gabby this season is on fire and won't be dropped for anyone - rightly if he keeps developing like this - England international Emile Heskey who has started to show some decent form at last and obviously the enigma that is John Carew. No better player than him on his day, does he have enough days is the major question.

So? Well, no idea basically but at least it shows some quality might be available should we need it come January!

The News of the World meanwhile have two reports by Luke Nicoli.

The first say that Villa are watching 22-year-old Scotland international and West Bromwich Albion midfielder Graham Dorrans. They claim Everton, Sunderland, Stoke and local rivals Birmingham City are also interested. Looks like a non story to me, the Baggies say he isn't for sale and he extended his deal this year.

The second link (Click Here for article) is to England U21 and Watford's 21-year-old goalkeeper Scott Loach. They say he is valued at around £3million and will be sold by the 'cash strapped' club in January. Apparently Spurs are also after him and MON has watched him a couple of times recently. Loach is quoted in the report, no idea how old the quote is though. He said: 'I am confident that I will play in the Premier League. I think my time will come eventually, but I just have to keep playing.' Difficult one to rate but this could be an interesting one. Brad Friedel is playing some fantastic football for us this season but can't go on forever. Brad Guzan is impressing in the Carling Cup and seems to be highly regarded but once Friedel retires, Guzan will need cover and someone to push him as he is the older Brad.

The Sunday Mirror says Spurs and Villa are after 19-year-old Ghanaian central defender Jonathan Mensah who currently plays in South Africa for Free State Stars. The report claims he is valued at around £2.5m.

Meanwhile not Villa related but we've been linked to the Dutch master ourselves... yes, ok, I'm stretching here! The News of the World link 26-year-old Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart to Arsenal as he has fallen down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.

Van der Vaart is quoted: 'If an opportunity emerges I would look at it because I need games. {to push for his World Cup place} For the moment nobody has told me I am leaving. I am now back on the bench but I will again have a chance to show my quality.'

Keane or Pav would be good signings i think. Both internationals.

Pav doesn't seem to have settled or impressed at all though does he? Keane would be an interesting one, him up front with Gabby could be awesome?!?!

Obviously Keane would be the 1st choice. Wish we'd bought him all those years ago. Pav did score a shed load in the "Russian" league. He just needs his confidence back and for the right price Monny's just the man to do it

i don't think keane's better than what we already have. although the addition of a skillful striker would be amazing and truly give us a shot at the top 4 (although i'm confident that we'll give it a good go as we are). i hate aiming for the top 4. we've beaten three of them already, why can't we aim bigger?
