MON On Carew & No Transfer Promises

MON On Carew & No Transfer Promises

Martin O'Neill has blasted reports that Big John Carew might be on his way to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

The Villa boss said - following Carew's agent also saying the big man was going nowhere John Carew Going Nowhere - Yet - 'I've no idea about that at all, absolutely not. But it's that time of year again coming up.' (Ha, it certainly is MON!!!! January Transfer Window Thread Pt 1)

Adding, 'There's nothing in it. I haven't spoken to John or his agent about it.'

He also says he is sure that won't be the only Villa player linked with other teams - which is true, Emile Heskey has already been linked with a move back to Wigan.

'But there's nothing in it as far as I'm concerned. I don't know anything at all about it nor have I bothered to chase it up. We're at a really important stage and John is very important.'

And on the transfer window he adds: 'Who knows what happens in January? I don't want to be sitting here promising absolutely everything and then finding out that I'm unable to keep these particular promises about anything that happens in a January window.' Saying that one thing is for sure, he doesn't want to be losing players.

I think it could well be a quiet transfer window, then again it wasn't that long ago we got a certain Ashley Young from Watford in a January transfer window (see all transfer dealings below)

Glad Carew is staying. He's worth more than £5M, we'll struggle to find somebody better than him, he scores between 15-20 goals a season and a cult hero. Glad he's staying and i hope he gets his contract extended by another year or two. JOHN CAREW CAREW! And I don't think we will buy more than 2 players this January if that, we don't really need anyone apart from maybe a back up playmaker to Milner? I wouldn't really mind if we signed nobody - just as long as we don't sell anyone else other than Harewood and Salifou

if you look at the business we have just done we had some right bargains. Dunne, collins and warnock to name 3. Hopefully downing can prove to be a 4th. But further back we have done some shocking business.

Net spend here is pretty big, much more than I thought it's be. A quick rough sum up shows it's well over £80. That's a lot of money.
