The January Transfer Window Thread Part 1

Oh no, here we go! I've tried to hold off as long as I could as there hasn't been that much transfer talk quite yet, but as people are now starting to ask, I thought I'd better get it sorted.

So you know the form, post your wants, any rumours you hear, who you would buy and maybe who you would sell and lets see how much madness we can suffer through the transfer window and up to Feb 1st!

personally not convinced there is going to be much quality movement in January and lets face it, with the squad we have now, we don't need any 'fillers' we are building with only better than we already have. Would think a few like Harewood and Shorey will be moved on if the right offers come in but that won't have too much impact.

What about Beattie ?? there's rumours he wants away from Stoke and we've been linked in the past. Not sure he's what we would want now though !!?!!

I know the rumours have already started but I think Robbie Keane is worth a shout as he'd bring something different to the strikers we currently have. The big problem is would Spurs sell a player to a 'rival' team???

Wake me up when it's Feb. All I'm interested in in Jan is beating Blackburn 3 times and getting good results against Wigan, West Ham, Arsenal and Fulham. Only joking - I'll be reading every link there is! Sad sad man. I would be surprised if we didn't see Shorey and Harewood go, and wild ones would be Reo Coker going and Delph going out on loan. In, er, ask me on the last day of the window, because I've given up guessing as I'm always wrong.

Can't see us bringing in anyone. Heskey is producing at last and the Fonz is still in the background, untested. Maybe a cheeky move for a Ruud Van Nistelroy type figure as a spur to the others? Can't see much else - and why should we? I think that the existing squad will get better in the second half as Downing settles in. Milner gets more accustomed to his role and Delph gradually makes an impact - though suspensions/ injuries seem to be the only way he will get in. So, for me, the least eagerly awaited transfer window that I can remember.

A fit Downing and Davies will be like 2 new signings anyway!! A striker would be fantastic but remember how unsettling it was when Heskey joined. Happy with what we have got!!! Unless its an Arshavin/Carew/Young type its more hassle than what its worth in January!

Personally I would like to see what this team could do rather than wasting money in the Jan window. I would spend a few £'s on the cheesse burgers. Imagine 40,000 cheeseburgers for 19 home games = 760,000 burgers so spend £760,000 on making the burgers £1 cheaper. Then get in a better range, you can't beat a big mac! The current burger is crap which is suprising for an American owner!

I can seriously see a swap deal with Jenas and Reo-Coker. I see Spurs going with advanced wide-men (Modric, Kranjcar, Bentley and Lennon) and two holding central midfielders (Huddlestone and Palacios). That leaves no defensive minded centre-midfielders. We, on the other hand, need a bit of creativity. Jenas was great when he came on against us. Another thing is that neither is going to S. Africa at the moment so therefore, the move would be good for both, if they still have aspirations!! Im sure we would need to throw 3 or 4 million with Reo-Coker to get him im sure!

I wouldn't mind signing Robbie Keane if that's what's available. I would like another striker and granted he's not world class but he'll be more consistent than Carew and more in the goals than Heskey.

We have two players covering every position. In most cases every player, or emerging young talent, is of a better than average quality. We have taken 3 and a half years to be at he level we are now at. I would be happy to see the likes of Harewood, Osbourne, Salifou and any other that is not going to improve us, be allowed to move on so that they generate some income, reduce the wage bill and be allowed to carry on with their own careers. I would then put all available money in to, one headline making, goalscoring, superstar. Very simply, we are one headline signing from making a real mark in the League. When we have that player that every other team fears (Drogba, Rooney, Torres, Ronaldo etc) then we will also get more goals from everybody else. It probably can't happen in January, but before next season with just one signing Villa have the opportunity to make the rest of the football world sit up and take notice.

Defour please... I think we are short of top quality in CM.... I'd blow 15-20m on 1 player for CM.. Let Gardner and Shorey go for 3m or 4m each. Then in the summer I'd blow 20m+ on a top top class Striker if we can get CL.

I think we should go back in for Zaki,he has proven he can do it in the Prem and would be a fraction of what he was worth last season.I think his form dipped last season because Wigan blocked his move.Seems like a bit of a plonker,needs a great man manager to get the best out of him.

Sidwell, harewood and shorey out please. I dont think we need anyone creative in the middle now as Milner seems to be doing a pretty good job. I want to see Delph get more minutes so I dont want Sidwell above him in the pecking order. Dzeko would never come but perhaps Huntelaar finally needs somewhere to pick himself up again but wherever he goes he ends up on the bench, so maybe that says something about his personality. I could never see why we didnt go for Tuncay? He could bring something to us and cant even get a start at Stoke. Zamora would be another Harewood so no thanks. Nene is leading goalscorer in the french league and im sure we are bigger than Monaco so maybe we could offer him a move? I think we need a striker as my main worry at the moment is a lean period for Gabby. We all know the problem with January is no one wants to sell especially to there nearest rivals which would scupper a Robbie Keane bid and the worry of bringing a foreign stirker in is that the time it takes for them to get up to the pace of the game.

What a message to send out signing a player of his calibre and surely one that will get the players buzzing. I remember him talking a few years back how he loves playing in a team who get the ball out wide and stick it in the box for him, well, thats our game. I think he'd be a good January signing and would no doubt clock up our goal difference. I might mention it to MON next time I meet him at pottery club.

Not usually keen on getting players after their hayday (is that the right spelling?!) but Nistelrooy could teach our boys a good few things (Gabby and Fonz) and bang a good few goals in at the same time, would be great imho!

Wage demands! - It seems many of you haven't taken that into account. Villa have a strict wage bill in place so that scuppers any Van Nistlerooy deal straight away. Even Keane would be a bit of a push.

first of all congrats on the excellent run of form you guys are on its been a good season so far for both our clubs!!!The fun and games of the transfer window eh?? lol in all seriousness i v.much dout "Arry" will let Keane go unless Keane has expressed a desire to leave himself!!! as it really isnt working this time around for him with us!! Il be sad to see him go if we do cash in although alot of spurs fans on vital would prob help him pack you can have Pav if you like though and Bentley 20 mill bargain ;)

only1spurs, no to pav and bentley as we have enough wingers to shake a stick at and pavs obviously lacking in confidence. Besides, we are up into that dizzy height where both clubs can start to attract quality (if available), whether either team needs it is debateable!

Personally I think Keane is past his best, he struggled ever since he moved to Liverpool. If we can get a striker, and/or a midfielder (as well as Milner is playing there, we need to take into account a possible injury) we will have a great shout for finishing in the top 4 and with a trophy.

The guy tapped up Defoe last Jan after another club was close to signing him & then there's the Peter Crouch/Sunderland farce from the summer. Yet O'Dreary said, "I've heard someone might be interested in joining Villa." & Villa are slapped with a charge of tapping up James Beattie. As for Jenas/Ashley Young swap Harry & the Spurs fans are begging for, it's never going to happen. Trouble is that we are now at a point where to improve our current squad its going to cost anyhwere between 15-25m per player. With our budget (from July 2010) MON could bring in 2 big signings each season to slot straight into our starting 11. We have the back bone its now time for the real quality

After that showing vs pool we definately need a striker who can finish! I'm sick of Carew and his useless flick ons and Gabby isn't prolific enough. Why oh why didn't we try for Bent? Without a proven fox in the box we will struggle to better ourselves this season. If the quality isn't available in the EPL then MON should take a look abroad or risk our season falling back to a slump in form again. Yep I'm angry at the results of late but what will change?? Our formation? Our finishing? Our long ball approach? non of this is looking like it will change and at the moment we are not pretty to watch! We must either bring through young fresh talent and gamble or buy quality when its available. How about a £2.5m punt on Kris Boyd? He's out of contract in the summer & can't do any harm for that price. Any news on Joe Cole's contract talks as I'm sure he's a free agent in the summer? I'd have liked to have got Cattermole, Bent & Turner in the summer but Sunderland beat us to them all. Surely Benni McCarthy or James Beattie could do a job upfront until the end of the season at least.

I'm really excited about how good Delfouneso may become. He certainly has a good eye for goal. He's scoring record for the England youth teams is excellent. Better than 1 in 2games (18 in 32). Perhaps we may start to see more of him after todays match. Again I think we should priorties a world class creative ball playing central midfielder. We need to be capabile of keeping more of the ball against the current top 4 teams and create more chances. We were dominated in the middle of the park against Liverpool, Asrenal and Manure.

im not so sure mcarthy would do a job for us, maybe 7-8 years ago we could of had a decent player but now cant see him doing much for anyone. beckfords temperament is not good, not good at all and is surely why no club has bought him yet, good player and finisher no doubt but i think it is safe to say he is a kinob. kris boyd not good enough for premier league top half his record against week clubs is very decent but hasnt bin able to do it consistently against good teams, best for him to stay in scotland and go set a mental record of goals and have his place in history set in stone. MON looks for a particular type of player on and off the pitch and none of these fit the bill but i look forward to see what he comes up with

As for Beckford, didn't Simeon Jackson get linked with every club in the Prem last year, including Villa, when he scored against us in the cup? Where is he now? Still at Gillingham. Beckford is Championship standard at best and a free agent in July. No thanks, we're better off with the Fonz.

Defour would be a great signing. Huntelaar only moved to Milan last summer so it's unlikely he'd go anywhere surely? But if we put in a bid for either of those it'd come as a shock, it's extremely unlikely, but the thought of it's nice. Stephen Ireland? Now Man City have Viera he may find it hard to get into the team, but saying that, our midfields pretty solid and there may be no place for him here either. I would say a striker is what we need though definitely, a prolific scorer. Heskey just doesn't score enough and as much as I love Carew, you never know whether he'll turn up, some days he's on fire, others he's the opposite.

I would hope we could sign a good goal scorer but there isn't that many on the market. However I still believe we need another top drawer midfielder foe Delph to learn from....

FFS! This bloody laptop. Second try: Beattie would be a good short term addition and may yet have his best form ahead of him -with the right medical staff and facilities. Other than that can anyone tell me which natural scorer would come to VP in January or seasons end? Look at Everton, snappng up Yakubu and Saha and they've done nowt!

That is the tale of the tape. Expect that we will breing in two marquee players, a midfielder and a striker. We definitely need a central midfielder to start rotating with Petrov.

they should scrap this transfer window, either go back to the old ways or maybe even more entertaining, make it summer only then you have to last the season with what you choose. Only trouble with that is it does impact the lower league clubs struggling for money as often they have to sell to keep going!

We have the best CM in the country at the moment in milner and Downing goes from strength to sttength each game and Ashley well, he would get into any prem team at the moment. Gabi is abit hot and cold but he works his ass off, all he needs is a few goals to boost his confidence and they will come. I agree we need one more striker but we dont need to spend 20m + on some fancy name, let spurs and man city fall into that trap. When JC is on the pitch he is always a threat especially with the delivery from Milner, Young and Downing. Gabi will start firing soon kid needs abit of luck. everyone needs to calm down. Agree with the scrapping of the January window but I'd like to take it a step further & say close the summer window the day before the opening game of the season. After all, isn't that what the pre-season is for?

take a chill pill koolbill! lol , sorry mate didnt mean to offend anyone. Just wanting to voice my opinion , that we are in a really healthy position and don't need to buy. I was not being sarcastic about beckford, sarcasm would have been "Wow beckford, what a star..." . We dont need anymore valuable saleable assets, there would be too many cook! We have Delph, The Fonz, Albrighton all itching to prove themselves, we dont need anymore. So I give a thumbs down to beckford. Oh and 26, I wouldn't class that as young for a footballer.

All done and dusted. Now we can concentrate on the rest of the season, Wembley and the FA Cup. We'll live or die by what we have. Looking forward to a storming finish and maybe Delph and Fonz used a bit more as the season wears on!?
