This one started doing the rounds on the forum last night, but could Villa really be in line for a £30 million sponsorship package dependent on reaching the Cup Final?
Initial coverage, from memory in the Mirror, stated that Villa were in discussions with three multi national companies but implied that any deal was unlikely unless we beat Blackburn in the Semi's.
The deal is rumoured to be worth £30 million over the next 5 seasons and would still of course include generous support for Acorns.
Now, if the work behind the scenes has been going on for a while in order to tempt a package worth this amount of month, then it's certainly not going to hinge on whether or not we get to the Carling Cup final or not.
That would no doubt be a nice cherry on top, but it wouldn't be the be all and end all.
There are definitely plans afoot though, a club spokesman has been quoted by the Sunday Mercury today (although I think this may be the same quote from last night:
'We have made it clear that any new commercial partnership would still work very closely with Acorns as well, and that would be a cast-iron part of an agreement.
'The club are very proud of the work that has been done so far and believe everybody will benefit from making sure it continues.'
It would certainly make a nice change having a proper 'financially beneficial' shirt sponsor given the offerings we've had over the former years.
That said it will be a shame to see the Acorns logo go, suited the shirts nicely that I thought.![]()
