Villa To Continue Acorns WITH New Sponsors?

Interesting article in The Mirror Football today claiming Villa could be set to land a massive sponsorship deal if we get to Wembley in the Carling Cup.

The article mentions 30m as the figure and claims we are in talks with three multi-national companies and winning a Wembley final place and gaining Europe again would obviously help the talks.

And what about Acorns? Well, any sponsorship deal will also involve ongoing support to that great charity as well.

A Villa spokesman told the paper 'We have made it clear that any new commercial partnership would still work very closely with Acorns as well, and that would be a cast-iron part of an agreement. The club are very proud of the work that has been done so far and believe everybody will benefit from making sure it continues.'

Seems obvious that as our profile continues to rise that we'll be able to attract a sponsor worthy of such a massive club as opposed to some of the .. ahem .. tin pot (?) deals in the past! What was the worst deal we have had? I used to hate seeing Muller on the shirts, what about you any sponsorship hates?!?!

And talking about Acorns: Vital Villa Acorns 450 Challenge Now up to 382 thanks to a few generous donations recently. Many thanks to all those who have chipped in.

No question, the most shaming sponsorship was Red, a trashy, sleezy online betting outfit. Unquestionably the best has been Acorns.

Muller was definitely the worst. I managed to buy the (horrible) green, red & black shirt (what were they thinking) before the sponsorship deal was concluded therefore it was blank. I once wore this shirt to go to Doncaster Rovers vs Scarborough (my Uni house mate was a big Scarborough fan) and, whilst walking through the streets of Doncaster, got called a "Cockney W@nker" by a 10 year old boy. Nice! Good understanding of football geography there.

Oh yeah forgot about 32Red.com Saurat. That was quite vile. I actually have that shirt on now as I type.

Yup, the red wasn't great, it was a cobbled together thing which looked more like a glorified affiliate deal!
LOL Adam quite right, if he was going to offend you, he could have at least done it accurately! lol

The DWS investment sponshorship on the Hummel shirts was not great neither :( Loved to have Rover on the shirt though.

The big plastic looking LDV was a lame one too. Remember the DWS investment wasn't put on my replica shirt properly and was peeling off.

The DWS investment looks like COWS on on my shirt, hated that, didn't like the Muller Red or the LDV if truth be told. Love the Acorns though!!

6 out of our last 9 shirt sponsors have gone bust. Rover, NTL, LDV, AST Computers, Mitre Copiers, Davenports. Chin up! The COWS one was genuinely terrible. Acorns makes me warm and fuzzy inside

Would this mean bumping Acorns from the shirt or would we have two on the front? Couldn't see a sponsor fronting that kind of money and not want to be on the shirt.

league rules are that you can only have one. Maybe the league should think to let all teams have one charity on their sleeve or something.

How about a ruling where ALL teams have to have a selected charity on their replica shirts, & their paid sponsorship on the player issues? Free exposure by the 'ordinary joe' fans for the Charity & a larger scale of exposure by the 'media-loved (& highly influencial)' professional footballers for the paid sponsorship.

More teams should be following suit with the charity sponsorship scheme. Infact I would go as far as saying the FA should enforce it. It's not only the Champions League money that is making a difference in the Premier League. At a time when Liverpool and Manchester United are announcing deals worth up to 100m for shirt sponsorship, other teams wouldn't even get close to that let alone Villa. It's a credit to Randy Lerner that he's willing to sacrifice such a large potential income in order for charity and raising the Villa profile. With the amount of money in football You'd think more should be done in giving to charity and it would go some way to levelling the playing field in terms of spending power in the game. The astronomical prices of players at the moment is ridiculous so this could only help cull the rising transfer fees. Everyone's a winner... Except the rich owners of course.

I liked the Muller one, but maybe I liked the era more! At least it was a well-known brand, unlike crap like DWS, LDV and 32red. My top 3 new shirt sponsors: 1) Nintendo (not just becase I loved the old fiorentina kit...) 2) Apple (would look cool on the shirt) 3) Google (it's modern yeah...) Of course, should we get a new sponsor hopefully we'll still keep acorns, maybe under the player number on the back, like in Spain etc.

Worst for me by far was walking round in a Hummel shirt with COW on my chest, truly embarrasing! 2 favourites, Rover, really like that shirt too and Acorns has been awsome, long may our support continue and help our next generation who truly need it.
