'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Milner The Magnificent

Martin O'Neill has paid tribute to our little midfield man James Milner after scoring 2 and creating 2 after 2 games in the middle.

Speaking on the official site following the match today O'Neill in many senses, totally overused the word 'brilliant' when describing Milly.

'James was brilliant, really brilliant.

'It's as if he's played there all his career.'

O'Neill went on to praise Milly's versatility, and raised the subject of him filling in at right back when it's been needed in the past.

'He is a very good footballer and he is thriving here. He has taken his game on a notch, two, maybe even three notches.'

It also seems many fans are in good company with O'Neill who states that he told James at the beginning of the season he thought he could play in the middle, and Monny is obviously delighted to have been proven right.

He's not the only one.

The engine of Milly makes him the perfect middle man, especially as he's not afraid to put his foot on the ball nor get dirty. Use any comparison you want, with his eye for goal and overall play I don't believe it's overhype to mention him as becoming as important to us as the likes of Platty or Tayls were in their day.

As it seems a day for jokes, Monny ended by saying:

'He has even played left back for him (Fabio Capello) - I haven't tried that one yet.'

Milner is quite possibly the ideal footballing role model for kids today, I just hope that AVFC can give him the platform as the man he's succeeding in that role, Ryan Giggs, got from MUTD

Clearly a man very much happy in his surroundings. Wouldn't it be amazing to think he could fullfill his potential and ambitions here at Villa Park?

Im sure the money boys will be hovering over Milner soon. They can forget that he's claret and blue through and through.

Milner is playing on his role.. his such a creative player and loves to run and pass a lot. I think he was a born centre midfielder and now with most of our team fit we got a good chance against United

Milner is now becoming s match winner, i believe Downing will be a match winner and i also believe Ashley Young could become a match winner too with more experience. Now we just need a really good tough midfielder. Perhaps Reo Coker can be that man. Perhaps now we have Downing here and Milly playing in the centre perhaps try a 4,5,1 with Agbonlahor on hes own. Heskey and Carew go missing far too much in matches for my liking. Friedel, Warnock, Cueller, Dunne, Young, Downing, Milner, Reo Coker, Petrov, Young, Agbonlahor.... A lot of pace with Reo Coker playing as Captain and Petrov trying to bring everyone else into play. It could work.

It's the first time we've had aplayer like him since Merson, the key difference being we'll get a decade out of him, unlike the 3 or so years from Merse. He's developing into a really class act.
