Aston Villa Press Transfer Talk

There have been some rumours and reports in the press recently that I've not really bothered to touch as I could see it was total pants (as opposed to the usual average pants!!)

The last one was a link to former Blue nose and Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant who the report suggested wasn't happy at Real Zaragoza.

Villa have now denied this link.

This one is a bit of an obvious one, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is being linked with a move for his former Blues/Wigan player Emile Heskey in the January transfer window according to The Daily Express. A straight swap for Darren Bent maybe! lol Not sure about this one, if he still isn't getting regularly into the Villa side though, he may well want to move but in the last few games he has started to show form and with the cold weather coming John Carew will no doubt disappear so Heskey should get his chance at Villa?

There was a strange one yesterday in Nemzeti Sport, a regular read in the Fear household, cough, with Marton Fulop of Sunderland and Hungary talking about links to Villa. First I've heard of it I must admit, he said he doesn't like to comment on rumours before adding (!) 'But if it is true, this would not be the first time my name has been linked with Aston Villa and Martin O'Neill. Aston Villa have two good goalkeepers at the moment, and I have a contract at Sunderland until 2012, but if Martin O'Neill says he wants me then I will take it very seriously.'

Wonder if it will take long for us to be linked to Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos again! A report today says he is ready to leave the Gunners and join Atletico Madrid in January. He was linked to us several times last summer.

Villa will get linked with any Englishman, actually any British player. From Joe Cole to Jenas, to Boythroyd & Andy King to unfortunately Jermaine Pennant. I'm expecting a link to Vassell anyday soon. I've noticed with MO'N, he does deny wrong reports almost immediately (the Upson failed bit), yet is silent when 'accurate' reports come forward (Dunne & Bentley in the summer.) So in the future I'll take his silence as a yes, kind of like my family do with me. Wouldn't surprise me if Everton, Spurs & Sunderland are the next teams linked with Pennant, as all 4 teams will get linked with the same players from now until the summer.

I don't expect us to sign anybody. Good January buys are rare - except Carew and Ashley - so I reckon no movemnet for us, except Shorey and maybe Reo Coker out, though I doubt the last one.

We NEED an additional striker - Hesky may be off, the Fonz not ready and Big John is unreliable!

I dont think Heskey will go, and I dont think he should. We need a squad. I really can see vey little movement. Maybe Gardner and Shorey out. I can't see many coming in. We dont need squad 'padding out' anymore. Maybe one top quality player like Van de Vart? Would be great, but can't see it happening. No quality strikers available as far as I can see. Maybe our midfield creative player is already on our books, and out on loan to Blackpool at the moment? Or will be Downing or Delph? We really have a very good squad, just one or two seriously top class players needed to be a major force, but I think we will have to wait for the summer to look for those players.

ljkal one and the same sir, one and the same. On the forum I use the nickname given to me but front page I like it to be a bit more 'proper' so to speak, just purely so I'm not hiding behind a username.

I wouldn't cry about Pennant, he was awsome at Liverpool but with already tons of wingers never thought it would happen. Hesky will stay hes already scoring goals and will bag much more. I just know that Carew will get injured any time soon. Maybe just one 10-12 million pound signing will do for us for the rest of the season

without a huge slice of luck, can't see much happening in January, there are never that many quality players available and we are at the stage were we don't need anything less than top quality to add to what we have!

With it being World Cup year, January might be a bit more active this time out. And unless they're standing next to MON with a Villa shirt in hand, I ignore it as conjecture.

As has been pointed out in other discussions, this year the defense is proving to be one of the best in the EPL when you look at the goals against totals. However, we aren't scoring enough to put away teams we should beat handily (burnley anyone?). I do think the young talent will develop its lethality, in the mean time, a more creative midfielder who can develop attacks with less predictibility (kick it long and see if Gabby can get it) and a proven finisher would be welcome additions in my book. Though I think they'll be hard to come by mid-season.

A striker and perhaps creative midfielder? I think we should take a punt on Owen as he isn't getting a game at Manure. He'd score lorry loads at VP. Offer 'em 3m and I bet they'd let him go. As for midfield how about Danny Murphy? Bearing in mind that he has to be English and played in the Prem (MON's policy not mine). Murphy is still class although we'd have to pay through the nose to get him (and he's not exactly a spring chicken).
