O'Neill Delighted To Be In Semi's Of League Cup
Martin O'Neill said after finding out our opponents for the Carling Cup semi final (as well as the FA Cup 3rd round) told the www.avfc.co.uk:
'We're delighted to be in the semi-finals and we have a number of big cup games coming up in January against Blackburn Rovers. With us also facing one another in the FA Cup, there will be a lot of toing and froing between Villa Park and Ewood Park. We will look forward to this when the time comes.'
In The Mirror the Villa boss says he'll bring back the glory days to Villa.
'Aston Villa, not since the European Cup days a long, long time ago now , have been trailing behind and it would be nice to contest semi-finals and finals more often. The league is very important and we are chasing. This season is probably even more difficult than last year, so sometimes even to stand still you have to improve by 10 or 15 per cent.'
He says we have made progress and there is an 'evolution' with quality players arriving.
And on joining the last four of the League Cup he added, 'I am very pleased. I won't disguise that fact. We wanted to get through. The players looked sharp. There's only four teams who can win the competition and we are one of them.'
