Man Of The Match v Spurs

Man of the match v Spurs was a no brainer really, well, at best a choice between two players, both of whom I gave a rare 9 out of 10 for in my match report.

The winner... drum roll please (or bread roll, I'm bloody starving) was non other than Carlos Cuellar with 66%

carlos

Next up Brad Friedel who I thought would get closer to Cuellar following a couple of world class saves. He got 20% of the vote.

friedel

The rest were also rans basically:

Milner 6%
Beye 3%
Agbonlahor 2%
Heskey 1%
L. Young 1%
Reo-Coker 1%

And some very telling no votes:

A. Young 0%
Carew 0%
Petrov 0%
Dunne 0%
Sidwell 0%

Carlos really did save our blushes, two great goal line clearances but thought Friedel would have registered more as a couple of his saves were world class also.

thought your two full backs, Agbonlahor and Young, defended really well in the 2nd half ;-)

He wouldn't be man of the match, but I skipped a heart-beat when Heskey had his last minute header. Why don't you play him from the start? He would have caused our defence more problems, I reckon.

Not pleased a defender got MOTM obviously, but I am delighted it was the bearded one, who has looked a lot more like the player we thought we were getting from Rangers now he plays CB

Not suprising. I did vote Cuellar but Friedel would have been my second choice which says it all really.

Hopefully we can stop talking about this bloody game now. It's only 1 out of 38, and we have a cup game tomorrow which, if won, will put us in our first semi-final for 4 or 5 years. Spuz fans are crowing as if they had won. If they were gents then they would offer us a replay for the handball leading up to the goal. We couldn't play so badly/negatively again!!!

You just summed up the game for me Villan444. We were playing amazingly awfull against a very good Spurs team but they're acting like they won when in actuality we got the draw while playing far from our best. Wait till we get to the Lane!

But thats what frustrates me so much about Villa, as soon as we go a goal up we start defending in our box and try to play counter attack. We have been doing it foe the last couple of years now.

I voted for Carlos but thought the whole defence played well . As for the midfield they were hopeless in the 2nd half .

I did notice Milner packed his jet fuelled Nike Air Legend II boots for this game! Agree with the above comment on our counter attack tactics. We seem to go for it early, go a goal up then try & play counter attack for the rest of the game. Even when we get pegged back & end up level it seems like MO'N is just trying to hold on to a point. I prefer the Owen Coyle philosphy - "I'm prepared to lose the game to try & win it!"

Cuellars form is purely down to his beard. It holds Sampson like qualities & powers. Just ask Mellberg.
