'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Villa Times - 25/11/2009

Unoial Villa News...

Fieldy has been struck down with the most heinous of illnesses, man flu. I'm sure all us blokes wish him all the best at this most distressing of times, the ladies won't, they don't understand our suffering.

Stewart Downing is set to start tonight for the reserves against Arsenal. Full details and link to commentary: Downing In Reserves v Arsenal Tonight

Interesting quotes from Martin O'Neill on the official site saying Villa will give everything they have to try and break the top four stranglehold. He told AVTV: 'What has tended to happen over the past few seasons is the top teams eventually force their way into those top four positions. We had an experience of it last season. We were going along nicely until February time. We had a number of points on the board and perhaps if we had a bigger squad we may have been able to cope a bit better.' Adding that the top teams have the experience and use it to keep the top four going. 'I am hoping we can hang in and get a few results so supporters stay with us, thinking something may happen. We have just got to hang in there.' He also says the team love the challenge. Full quotes: www.avfc.co.uk

Martin O'Neill has spoke to the Daily Mirror about our very own Randy Lerner and says despite the fact he has struggled to get to so many games this season due to the problems at the Cleveland Browns, the man at the top is still 100% committed to Villa. The Villa manager says that despite Randy not being at all the games, he has seen them all at home. Full article: Randy Lerner's Love Of Villa Still As Strong

Vital Villa asked for your man of the match v Burnley. There you go Emile Heskey proof indeed that if you score for us, we do like you!!!!! Emile got 55% of the vote. Full results + the how many Villans will make it to the world cup poll results: Man Of Match v Burnley

Sami Mokbel of the Daily Star has a very daft report in the paper this morning saying that Arsenal will bid 17million in the summer for Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor. He's not for sale. I know for a fact he is very highly rated by Martin O'Neill as is our other and even younger striker Nathan Delfouneso so why on earth would we be selling a striker for such a 'low' fee? Not only is he an England international, he is also nowhere near the finished product. Full article: 17million For Gabby? You're Aving A Laff!

As we turn our focus to the game v Spurs this weekend, JayVFC has done a great head to head comparison: Villa v Spurs Head To Head

Carlos Cuellar says that Villa now have strength in depth and will fight hard this season. He said on the official site: 'The league this season is really, really tough. Last season there was only really Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and us for a lot of the campaign. Now we have Manchester City and Tottenham. They have good players and they will be fighting massively to break into that top four along with us. But I feel we have a better chance of maintaining things this time around because we have a bigger squad. We struggled at the end of last season because we didn't have the biggest. But now we have virtually two players per position. If you want to change one full-back for the game for example, you know the one coming in is going to do a good job. That's the quality we have and the competition for places.'

Bit of a strange one this really, Nicky Shorey has gone out on loan to Nottingham Forest. Not much in the way of quotes or anything but hey ho!

Another belter from JayVFC who has looked in detail at the options for Stuart Downing. Full article: Stewart Downing & The Possibilities

John Carew on confidence and a giraffe...well, why not?! John Carew - Confidence Is High

Bacon butty, might even fry an egg or two, if you are interested.

The Official Site upgrade is continuing there has been a bit of a facelift on the main site and also the logins are placed in easier locations. That work will be ongoing now they have completed most of the 'behind the scenes' work including servers etc (the non sexy and non visible stuff which is crucial to the working of a site basically!) Full details: Official Site & Online Ticketing Upgrades

OK, so it is a slow news time at the moment but just reading our forum I saw an interesting post by Vital member: BarosBarryBouma who said: 'Much has been made of Carew's inability to play for us with any degree consistency; when the big man is up for it, he's almost unstoppable (see Bolton at home). When he's not, he can be a liability (see Burnley away). Unfortunately as of late Carew only seems to be up for it when the odds (and playing conditions) are in his favour.'
