Burnley took an early lead through Steven Caldwell in the 9th minute and managed to hold the original Claret & Blue’s at bay until Emile Heskey popped up in the 86th with a headed equaliser. (Not kidding).
TOTTENHAM v Wigan

Spurs really put Wigan to the sword and knocked 8, yes count them, 8 goals past a hapless Wigan side in just 45 second half minutes. Having took a 1-0 lead into half time, Spurs, particularly Defoe, came out fighting with the England World Cup hopeful knocking in 5 goals with his 7-minute hat trick knocking Agbonlahor from 2nd place in the quickest Premier League trebles. – Must be said… Wigan were awful!
Highest Possible League Standing
Villa: 4th: With Tottenham 3 points ahead, only a 4-goal victory will be enough to dislodge Spurs following their massive boost to goal difference, so realistically we'd remain 5th equal on points with Spurs.
Spurs: 2nd: Would depend on Arsenal losing to Chelsea, which is more than possible, and Manchester United losing to Portsmouth, which is lets face it, is a LOT less likely.
Prediction
Four of the last five meetings between these two teams have ended 2-1 with the only exception being that memorable 4-4 draw. Goals are pretty much guaranteed with there being only 10 0-0 draws in all 156 previous meetings in all competitions.
Villa are looking very strong at home this season and have still maintained the impressive record of scoring in every game since that woeful loss to Wigan on the opening day of the season. Add to that the scalp of Chelsea, the draw against Manchester City and the win at Liverpool and Martin O’Neill’s men are really proving to big game players.
Tottenham on the other hand, their record against three of the big four reads 3-0 loss to Arsenal, 3-1 loss to Manchester United & a 3-0 loss to Chelsea. Not good. To be fair they have beaten Liverpool… But who hasn’t this season?
Harry Redknapp will have his team fired up following the demolition of Wigan, and rightly so. They are a threat with goal scorers such as Defoe, Keane & Crouch but just because you get a hat-full one-week doesn’t mean you will the next. (See Villa 5-1 Bolton then Burnley 1-1 Villa).
My Prediction: Aston Villa 2-1 Tottenham Hotspurs

I've got a lot of mates who are spurs fans down here in the southwest, so there's always a lot of pride riding on this fixture for me. I was pretty confident about this fixture until the yids tore wigan a new bum trumpet. I'm counting on the spurs squad to be weighed down and off-balance on account of their big heads from Sunday's match. I can also see them taking our attacking threat for granted, which means we can keep catching them on the break for a 4-2 thumping. For me please Villa.

My theory has always been the mutual dislike stems from both clubs being very similar and both sets if fans being very insecure and defensive about their flagging stature in the game

No wonder the players are running off at the mouth like demented parrots every 5 minutes; 'top 4! top 4! top 4!'. Tough one to call this, but if Huddlestone and Kranjcar put the same amount of effort in as last week, I can't see Villa coping with our midfield. Tottenham to sneak it.

Villan444, i agree that your defence is better than ours but not miles better. We have 4 very good center halfs in King,Woodgate, Bassong and Dawson. We have 2 solid full backs in Corluka and Ekkoto who has become a brilliant player and Hutton and Bale are not bad covers. Other than that we also have Naughton who is a bright talent for the future. So i disagree that your defence is miles better than ours.

Good article and i agree with Phartmans comment about the status of our clubs. Personally ive always liked Villa and i think your physical pacey and solid style will be too much for us on Saturday. I think 2-1, 3-1 Villa may happen. But if te real Spurs turn up it could be anything. I said earlier 1-0 Villa Collins header would be just so typical of Spurs (and Villa lol) Should be a good game anyways fellas.

Even "very good" players have off days particularly when young. But he's turned himslef into a very consistent performer these days, granted he's no Vidic but there certainly isn't a better 4th choice centre back in the league. (Obviously I'm using "certainly" in the laziest possible sense, pedants go home)

They remind me of Leeds just before the went bust.

Every time i bet on the Villa we always lose so although it will break my heart to do so i am going to put 10 squid on the Spuds this should guarantee us a win . I don't hate most spurs just the ones who subscribe to the "were a bigger club than you" bull**** .

That's not a bad policy doug4ever. I put a fiver on every Villa game for us to lose 2-1. When I back us to win we always lose so when we do there's always a pick-me-up. Those defeats to Blackburn and West Ham turned into little earners.
