Team News - NRC Dropped/Downing On Bench

Team news for Villa in our match at Turf Moor against Burnley (well, we aren't going to play Spurs there are we?!)

A changed team from our 5-1 win with Petrov straight back in and Nigel Hokey-Cokey dropped, not sure how that is fair or how that is top man management but hey ho, I'm not the boss and MON is.

Oh and look at the subs, we have a new face there.... exciting stuff!

Friedel

Young
Cuellar
Dunne
Warnock

Milner
Petrov
Sidwell
Young

Carew
Agbonlahor

Substitutes
Reo-Coker
Downing
Shorey
Heskey
Delph
Guzan
Beye

Meanwhile in the Express & Star MON says he likes competition for places but admits that will leave some players on the bench and not happy.

'People are fighting for places in the side and the same would go for Nigel. He has got his head down in training and got on with things.'

And on the game: 'It will be a stern test for us and I hope the same applies for them as well.'

COME ON THE VILLA... 3 points today.

I think we could all pick Villa's starting eleven from week to week...not sure what message that sends out to the rest of the players whether squad or fringe!!!

Heskey scored, Downing played well when he came on, Im not sure you can pick the first 11 every week anymore. There was a bench full of quality for us today.

I don't get it. When we had a 'squad' that picked itself, everyone complained. Now we don't have that situation, everyone complains ...

And it's no good saying "O'Neill plays his favourites". That's stating the obvious - he's paid to play the team he likes best, and to carry the can if it goes wrong. Let's face it, we fans would be no different in selecting our team. We have NRC-lovers (metaphorically!) and those who think he can't pass a ball to save his granny. The same goes for most other players. There is no consensus - only a boss who makes the decisions.

There is no complaining, it was a mere observation that O'Neill seems to have a select group of players whom he plays come rain or shine regardless of form or fitness & that he is usually reluctant to change things around. Observation, not a complaint or praise & I just wonder what the other players must think especially if you come in and do the business only to be dropped straight away. Again not sticking up for certain players or otherwisw was just a thought not a moan.

only a boss who makes the decisions, we all (or all the sane ones) agree with that Bob, thing is though, football is about debate and who we would start with, who we love/hate etc. If we all debated by saying 'it is up to the manager' then footie wouldn't be the great sport that it is on and off the pitch! For me you don't change a winning team just to fit in a favourite after we'd won 5-1, for you maybe we do and for the manager we defo do. Whose opinion matters? His and it is his job on the line if he gets it wrong/plaudits when he gets it right.
