How Many Villans Will Make England WC Team?

Carlos Cuellar says there could be up to six Villa players on the plane to the World Cup next summer.

The six, it appears, are: Gabby Agbonlahor, Emile Heskey, Ashley Young, James Milner, Stephen Warnock and Stewart Downing.

Milner

He told the official site: 'They all have a great chance in my opinion. They are playing very well and have plenty of confidence in themselves.'

Ashley Young

That leads on very nicely to the poll suggested by deano.avfc who wanted to know how many Villans you think would make the plane. His list included Luke Young who has since announced his international retirement (see: ) and Curtis Davies who is out injured until the New Year and then you would expect he'll have a long wait to disloged Richard Dunne and James Collins. Of course there are a few possible wild cards also, unlikely but depending on injuries, who knows, Steve Sidwell? Nigel Hokey-Cokey? Fabian Delph? Not likely but then, you'd have said the same about Theo Walcott of Arsenal.

Agbonlahor, Young or Downing, Milner, Heskey or Warncok!

How awfully ironic if Heskey is Villa's only representative. Certainly not beyond the bounds of possibility. It will kind of make a mockery of human existence.

Trouble is, we are likely to go and beat Brazil, Spain etc, then get knocked out by Outer Mongolia! ( Yeah I know they aint there... )

In my opinion it will depend on what tactics Monny uses once DJ Stewie is fit. I would love it if he gave Ash a free role behind Gabby again as that was when we saw his best footy. And with Milly and DJ either side of him all 3 could interchange and cause all sorts off problems. Then i would put NRC and Stan as the holding 2. If it works then we could well see 6 players goin. Gabby, Milly, Ash, DJ, Warnock and NRC

I don't think Ash will make it . He still hasn't shown the form of last season for Villa and has had some very ordinary performances for England but having said that he is a quality player and has time to turn things around . Heskey has got to be found out soon Capello isn't an idiot (?). I think Gabby , Milner Warnock and maybe Downing on the flight .

If we finish in the top 4 Champions League places come the end of the season then we could have upto 5 or 6 going to the WC...but if we do not win a trophy or finish 7th or lower then i would say that possibly only 2 would get on the 'plane

I have voted 2, Milner is a shoe-in IMO, mainly down to his versatility and I also reckon Gabby will be there. Warnock and Ashley Young are down the pecking order and only have an outside chance in my view. As for Downing, well he needs to get fit and then break into our side before he can even be considered for a World Cup surely? All the other players will have to pray for an extreme injury crisis to have a chance of being in South Africa.

Hopefully none, as I'll feel like I'm on 'injury-watch' all tournament.

The flipside of that Stu is the experience which then rubs off on the rest of our team, I think the more the better!

Doug4Ever, think for Ash a lot depends on him getting up to speed and a decent run of form, he's been very in and out this season so far - and we have to remember he is still only 23 and learning, he is nowhere near his peak yet - but if a few injuries set in for alternatives and he has a decent season, then he might make the plane. More likely to be a shoe in for the following world cup though when he'll be 27-28 and hopefully at his peak and not only that but at his peak WITH Villa!

What Gabby has in his favour is that he is the only one of the strikers who can do the job just as well up front on his own as well as with a partner. Unfortunatley I think he will have 4 strikers and they are ROONEY, HESKEY, CROUCH and DEFOE unfortunatley!! The cynic in me thinks Milner and Heksey only.....and a big IF for Milner as he may prefer Joe Cole (also versatile) and Walcott as wide men with Beckham and Lennon/SWP!! If it was me though I would have Gabby, Young, Warnock, Milner and possibly Downing - and I say this as a guy who could not give a toss about whether or not they win the thing!! I also think the starting XI should be - Green, Brown, Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Milner, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Agbonlahor, Rooney. BUT I think that the starting XI will only have one Villan - HESKEY!
