'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Delboy's New Deal

Nathan Delfouneso has today signed a new contract that will keep him at B6 until 2012.

The two year extension delighted Martin O'Neill who waxed lyrical on the official site about the youngster:

'I couldn't be more pleased. He is a great talent and has real natural ability. He is a great, great talent and I am absolutely delighted to have him here.'

Describing Delboy as a striker who 'has it all,' Monny is wary of putting him under too much pressure but did add that he was pushing very hard for a first team place and will get a proper chance soon.

'He has been around the first team. I hope when he gets his opportunity - in the not too distant future - he can grab it. He really wants it and I think he has that determination about him. The football club will see the benefits in the next few years.'

It's going to be interesting to see how well he makes the step up. He has been around the first team for a long time now and although he's never really stolen the show in the Cup games where he has played, he has shown flashes of potential and not let himself down.

I think many of us will be happy to see him start in the coming weeks given the 'reservations' over Carew and Heskey.

Yes, play the kid. It's not as though he has massive boots to fill, in heskey, is it?

its an interesting one this one, he doesn't score many goals in reserves or at youth level, which is strange for a forward which supposed to have so much talent. The last two forwards to come through our ranks that did anything in the first team (gabby and Vassell) scored quite a few goals at both levels and both then struggled to score in the premier league. So if he is any good we might have another Heskey on our hands or a winger if he is so good at going past players, because i really can't see him scoring any goals in the Premier league

I say throw him in the starting line-up with Clark, Albrighton & Craig Gardner. And promote Gary Gardner to the bench. All players who want to play for the club & will no doubt give their all.

I'd love to see him get a decent run of games, but it's not going to happen whilst O'Neill is in charge. He won't be 'risked' in the league, despite the fact that O'Neill has a flutter on Heskey, week in, week out. He might get a game if we're drawn against League One or Two opponents in the FA Cup, but that's it. I'm a little surprised that he's been willing to sign an extension, but then I guess that shows his love for the club. Which of course makes it all the more tragic that he's not going to get a chance, whatever O'Neill has said today.

Albarnista, MON gave him a few games last season and no doubt would have played him if we were in europe still. We will see him this season, no doubt. In fact he appeared as a sub today
