Cuellar Suspended, Who Will Play Right Back?

Cuellar Suspended, Who Will Play Right Back?

Carlos Cuellar was sent off at Goodison Park this weekend against Everton, and although many fans expect Luke Young will be the man to replace him during his suspension, those of us who have followed Martin O`Neill`s squad selection closely over the past few years know that he is capable of doing the unexpected and playing someone out of position at right back.

So who do you think O`Neill will select at right back? There are possibly 10 contenders, here is a run down:-

Luke Young - the obvious choice, probably our strongest option at rightback but having sat on the bench for our last 3 fixtures, he has possibly fallen down the pecking order, or more likely O`Neill has allowed Cuellar to continue there following some solid displays

Habib Beye - signed from Newcastle in the summer, he has played a handful of games, but didn`t do enough to hold down a place when Dunne and Collins joined forcing Cuellar out onto the right hand side

Nigel Reo-Coker - has been out of the side in recent weeks, but did play at right back quite often last season, it was felt he was a better right back that Nicky Shorey was a left back.

James Milner - has filled in there in the last few minutes of games this season and also had a go at left back for England recently, O`Neill may see Jimmy as the answer to the right back problem that has caused so many issues over the last 3 seasons

Craig Gardner - NRC may have been the midfielder who played at right back last season but the season before it was young Craig, maybe O`Neill will recall him to the starting 11

Eric Lichaj - the youngster enjoyed a run in the side during pre-season maybe this will be his chance to stake a claim on a regular place?

Ciaran Clark - like Eric, Ciaran has impressed in friendlies and on his league debut too, he will be hoping to break into the side sometime in the near future

Emile Heskey - O`Neill played Heskey at right back for 10 minutes in the Everton game following Carlos` sending off, maybe it was a sign of things to come?

Brad Guzan - why not? He certainly wouldn't give away any penalties!

Marlon Harewood - maybe he could be recalled from his loan to Newcastle? He might not be a right back but he would give 110%.

Please vote for who you think O`Neill will pick to play right back during Cuellar`s suspension; the poll is over on the right hand side of the screen.

Heskey did a brilliant job there on Saturday, would love to see him given an extended run at full back.
