'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Suspensions and Injuries

You do wonder if we've lost more than we gained from the Everton match, but then again maybe not.

Speaking on the official site Monny praised Lee Probert for getting the first red card decision right, but wonders why he didn't realise Carlos got a touch on the ball for the second.

'I think it was pretty clear that he's got the first decision absolutely correct. It was a pretty nasty challenge.

'I think that he got the second one wrong and I thought at the time Carlos got a touch on the ball.'

In a normal world the suspension to Carlos will see either Beye given a chance, or see the return of Luke in his favoured position. You can't however rule out NRC at right back.

As for the injury front, Milner did take a knock leading to his half time substitution and there are concerns over Petrov.

'James was pretty sore in his calf. He continued on manfully in that first half and I decided to make a change just before the second period.'

So hopefully it doesn't sound serious, but you do wonder if this is the opportunity Albrighton has been waiting for.

'Stiliyan is very, very sore at this moment. He tried to carry on, but he eventually had to come off.'

If Petrov is out then who comes straight in, does NRC get the chance, will Delph be given another opportunity - or maybe forgotten man Gardner?

How bad was the referee? Completely lost the game. Gave everything to Villa so the crowd got on his back so then he just started giving free kicks for anything that came into his head at the time to both sides. Sent off our player so the crowd called him a *****er, so he decided to send off your full back. Ridiculous excuse for a referee.

To be honest mate we've been so, so, so, so very bad for 7 games now, our first half performance was actually good by our new low standards! Second half both teams seemed to be as bad as each other and the referee was desperate to get the foul count up as much as possible for whatever reason, so the game was poor as it went on yes, but for us by our recent form, we were fantastic!

Luke Young will come in now and Cuellar will struggle to get his place back its a shame for him but I think its a stronger back four with Luke Young at right back.

I think Cuellar's first yellow was an even worse decision and including the Sunderland pen he seems to be getting a rough time from Refs . You can often tell when there has been a good refereeing performance when you don't notice the ref too much .. this ref was in our faces all day .

Funny Everton Mike because the first half the Villa fans were saying he was giving everything to your guys, he also gave some decisions the wrong way seeing it totally differently to both sets of fans. He was awful but pretty consistently awful I thought!

Milner came off with an injury? You didn't think it was tactics did you?! Nice easy way for Luke Young to get back into the team now as well and no hard decision for MON to make dropping Carlos at right back for an actual right back!? Bad news for Carlos but good news for our defense surely?

I agree Fear - a chance to see our preferred back 4 - all in their preferred position!! Great!! But what does everyone think of Carew and Heskey - honestly I think they both are so unfit and off form!! I dont know why but getting an hour out of either is the most you are gonna get!! We need to go back to 4-5-1 and throw Delph in for games when we are 'going for it', need creativity and expect a win and Reo-Coker when we need that bit of steel against the top sides.

Oh and another think - Downing has never kicked a ball for us, yet I think that we actually miss him!! Strange feeling that!! Get Milner in the middle, switch Young wide right and we are laughing!

Gardener is off to Wolves according to the People for 2M. And if he doesnt get any first team action, I cant imagine that happening. Just think of Cahill, Ridgewell etc. But they have to write something to sell the papers!

MON uses subs less than everyone else. Nothing wrong with thati f all parts of the team are purring but we have the least shots too and it seems MON is content with mediocrity to me and reliance on his defence. Villa's average of 1.44 subs per game is about a third of the norm. Tactical substitutions are even rarer and we are so unentertaining. I cannot work out how we cannot try other options. If we trust the managers judgement then presumably the answeris he thinks they're all simply not good enough - otherwise why stick with a midfield and strike force that is not hitting the heights we want and need. A couple of tweaks, a couple of others given some oportunities, keep them on their toes. We can't always get waves of Villa attacks and excitement but to stick again and again with under achievement going forward baffles me. Beat West Ham and Bolton and we will be very well positioned, which is great, but we should always be looking for more. I would hate to lose quality players who have not been tested out propely. Lets try and hit the heights.

MO'N should put Gardner in. I'd guarantee he'd score more than Sidwell would in a season. A 4-5-1/4-3-3 would be best against West Ham. Friedel, L. Young, Collins, Clark, Warnock, Agbonlahor (if Milner's out), Delph (if Petrov's out), Reo-Coker, C.Gardner, A.Young, Carew (if Milner's out, otherwise Agobnlahor). Dick 'Hoof' Dunne or Heskey nowhere near the line-up would also be nice, but not gonna happen.
