'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Brad's After Brad's Position

Brad Guzan is determined to oust Brad Friedel between the sticks because he's determined to oust Tim Howard from the US side. Does that make sense?

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Brad Jnr was still beaming from his heroics against Sunderland earlier this week, and the performance has only served to increase his desire to make his first full Premiership debut.

He wouldn't mind if it was this weekend actually, but he does realise he has his work cut out for him in both of his aims.

Describing Friedel as the perfect role model, Guzan knows that if he can only have half the career Brad Snr has had he'll be onto a good thing, and that of course includes International recognition and replacing the man he hopes to call his opposite number when we play Everton this weekend.

'I think that would help,' he said on the question of whether becoming Villa's number one would aide his international dream.

'It's one of those things where you want to be playing week in, week out.

'For myself getting games like this and playing well hopefully makes the national team manager think 'when he does get games he is still sharp and contributing to the team.'

Guzan certainly contributed in our recent Carling Cup match. You can't but help make comparisons with Bozzie after a 'kick goal' performance like that.

The jury will inevitably remain out until he gets a good run of games in the first team, but you can't disagree that when he has played he's performed.

I'm not sure whether goalies of 25 years of age are meant to be still showing potential, but apart from a few errors Guzan has done little to suggest we can't have faith in him.

Plenty of time, good poll thread in the 100% forum asking the same. Majority seem to be happy for him to play all the cup games this season and follow through with more league stuff next season if he keeps progressing. Sounds sensible to me!

I agree, he wont play in the league for us unless friedel gets injured because of his record. Guzan seems to really have his feet on the ground too. Sets a good example

Great shots stopper but looked a little out of position/nervous when when got knocked out the UEFA cup at Villa Park, a little too much at stake to early perhaps. Definately has the potential though, let him play the cups we have left. He can't improve without the chance to prove himself.
