Post Sunderland Win Reactions

Martin O'Neill hailed Brad Guzan's penalty saving performance and said he was confident the American keeper would save them!

MON on the official site said after the game (and again, apologies for delays in articles on the game, we had admin problems) 'We're all euphoric - none more so than Mr Guzan. It was just a fantastic performance from him and naturally I am delighted to have got through.'

He also says Guzan is 'as brave as they come.'

Ashley Young, scorer of the winning penalty, and what guts that took after his earlier season penalty miss, said: 'It is always nice to score the winner but I think a lot of the credit has got to go to the goalkeeper - the number of saves he made in the game and the penalty save he made in the game as well. The saves after that were tremendous too. He is brilliant for us and showed today how good he was.'

Steve Bruce wasn't a happy bunny last night, Mr Potato head was gutted when interviewed on Sky and also told the BBC Sport side: 'We had more chances than them but it wasn't our night. On the plus side I thought we were excellent. But I thought our overall performance was excellent and in my opinion we deserved to go through. Their keeper had one of those nights he will remember for the rest of his career.'

Seems confidence is high amongst the Villans, we asked BEFORE last night's game, how far do you think Villa will go in the Carling Cup?

42% said a final win.

22% were slightly less optimistic and felt we were going to get beaten by Sunderland.. ha, in your face! ;o)

That left 22% predicting a 1/4 final exit, 10% a semi exit and 4% a final loss.

We'll know our quarter final opponents on Saturday at 12 noon when the draw is made. I believe it is live on Sky Sports, I could be wrong however... thorough investigative journalism or what!?

Fingers crossed for a nice home draw against Solihull Borough, then a semi final against Chelmsford ladies then a final against the dog and duck.
