Curtis Davies' agent recently claimed that the player is disappointed that the club have failed to offer him a new deal.
Its reported that Davies earns a mere £25,000 a week (loose change to me and you) compared to other first team regulars including new signing Richard Dunne, who it is believed is on double that.
Some papers have reported that he is willing to quit the club in January, but it has been claimed that he not due talks until he has played 60 games for the club (he is currently 2 away on 58).
His agent Phil Sproson had said 'It is slightly disappointing given the circumstances of Curtis` injury and the fact he played on when the club were low on numbers
'We hoped it could be sorted sooner rather than having to wait for Curtis to play his allocation of games.
"But it`s the club`s prerogative and we respect Martin`s decision.'
He added - "We`ll have to look at the situation in January when Curtis is available and plays two more games."
Since then Mr O'Neill has spoken out over the saga (is it a saga? At what does an issue become a saga? I am making this a saga, why? Because I can!) "I do not deny that there is a stipulation in his contract. He is due a re-negotiation after he plays 60 games," said O`Neill. "I did not know that until the agent reminded me. That was not the reason I did not play him against Fulham, I would have thought the contract issue was private information, but if the agent and the player chose to reveal the details, that is up to them."
The defence is almost unrecognisable with new boys Habib Beye, Stephen Warnock, James Collins and Richard Dunne. Perhaps we have now seen the last of Curtis?
Hope it gets sorted, I think he is a good player, though Collins and Dunne have looked impressive so far this season.
