Looking at this match is like looking at any Villa match at the moment. If M'ON plays 442 then unfortunately I think we will lose by at least 2 goals. If he plays 451 then I think we will give them a game. Just as a reminder, in the last 44 league games we have played 442 on 20 occasions and have only beaten Blackburn, Hull, Newcastle and Portsmouth. There have been 7 draws and 9 defeats. We have had 451 as a starting formation on 16 of those games, winning 12 drawing 3 and losing 1 (to Boro at home last season). Those 16 games have included games against Manure, Redscouse (twice), The Arse (twice) and Bluescouse, not just teams in mid or lower table positions. Changing mid game to 442 when 451 is not working has been ok. But if 442 hasn't worked it is difficult to change to 451 when you are chasing a game, as it is a counter attacking formation. M'ON says it is about players, not formations. I would argue that the results prove that this statement is incorrect.

Totally agree with U VOTH. It seems MO'N knows 4-5-1 is the best formation for us, he just doesn't like it. I think he'll play it safe & go for 4-5-1 against Citeh. If he does, I can't see us losing. We was very unlucky against Boro in that defeat (or maybe Sidders was.) I never used to like the 4-5-1 formation until we started playing it. Now for Villa, I swear by it. If MO'N insists on playing Carew & Gabby, I would hope he kept it 4-5-1, with Gabby on the right & Milner in the middle with Petrov & Reo-Coker ... yes, Reo-Coker!
