Monny Loving The Reserves Bandwagon
Martin O'Neill has told the youngsters to keep faith in the fact that the only reason many of them aren't regulars in our first team is because fully fledged internationals are keeping them out.
Speaking on the official site today after the reserves made it four wins out of four in the Reserves League last night, Moony looked back wistfully at the Europa league admitting the Premiership is hardly the place for constant experimenting.
'The players that are keeping our young lads out of the side are fully-fledged internationals.
'Lads like Marc have a real, proper chance of being a player. We've also got the likes of Nathan Delfouneso, Shane Lowry and Ciaran Clark.'
Shane Lowry as we know is on a loan outing at Plymouth for additional experience, and in Monny's own words Clark's debut against Fulham saw a performance 'as if he had turned out 50 times in the Premier League. It is all very encouraging.'
He admits the balancing game between winning and blooding the youth is difficult:
'The Premier League, as I am often reminded, is not the place to be experimenting. When I look back, I wish we had the European games because I would definitely have looked to blood them in that.'
Overall Monny knows each of the talented lads coming through will get chances, and he's also sure when they do they'll take them with open arms and not let anyone down, least of all themselves.
