Stan Collymore believes Gabby has silenced his critics with his goals to games ratio this season.
Speaking on the official site our former striker has been hugely impressed with Gabby's attitude and the work he put in over the summer to bulk up and he believes his current vein of form has a lot to do with that work.
'Gabby came under fire towards the end of last season because he wasn't scoring many goals and has also had a slow start to the current campaign.
'But I reckon that's all behind him now. His superb left-foot strike against Fulham got him off the mark and I bet he was feeling on top of the world after his late winner in the Second City derby.
'Now that Gabby has that confidence back, I think we will see the very best of him.'
Admittedly for me the jury is still out. Gabby started fine last season and was clocking up the goals before going on his barren spell.
Hopefully that won't happen this season and he'll find that consistency he has longed for. Having bulked up though when his goalscoring streak does his a dry spell he'll be far more useful on the pitch which in turn should help keep his confidence high in any case.
What has been nice to see this season is the number of goals from outside the box. The overriding memory of last season were scrappy tap ins and goals coming from the six yard box. Now he's added some distance to his chances and has shown he can competently finish with his head, he should become a more rounded striker which in turn should see him take more chances.
Again consistency remains the issue, but fingers crossed that one can be put to bed aswell come next May.![]()
