Carling Cup Draw - Villa Away To Sunderland

The Carling Cup 4th round draw has been made and Villa have been drawn away in a tricky tie against Sunderland.

The ties will be played week commencing October 26.

Sadly we can't bring you the full fixtures as it would bring down the very bastions of football for us to publish fixtures... apparently.

Very iffy tie this one, any away game is far from easy, but Sunderland are a testing opposition in my opinion

haha footy_fans! agree though, will certainly prove to be a difficult one. hopefully we can edge it though, get our away form buzzing.

lol - gotta love swaer filters :) We play well away with the pace we have - should be a winner for us or maybe I'm getting a bit overconfident after a few wins

it'll be hard, maybe easier if they lose the next 2/3 games though...

so funny when Charlie Nicolas pulled out Arsenal and looked so pleased he'd given them a home tie and Tony Cottee then pulled out Liverpool!

Last eight here we come. Certainly not the easiest of ties, but we could have received a lot tougher. Bruce's lot will be no pushovers, particularly on their own patch, but its a game that we are well capable of winning, particularly if we go up there and field our strongest possible starting X1. Dont think we've drawn Sunderland in this competition since way back in the sixties, when we met in a two legged semi-final. We won the first leg 3-1 at the old Roker Park, before drawing the second leg 0-0 at Villa Park. See, we were stronger on our travels in those days too!! Bring 'em on.

lol, agreed merlin, his face was a picture!
Going to be a tough game, one that I hope our lot don't take for granted like perhaps we did v Blackburn but as you say sir glen of the sider, one we can win.

as I've said in the forum thread, facing Sunderland isn't the best draw we could have had, I'm sure they will also be up for a cup run whereas some of the 'bigger' clubs get distrated with PL/CL considerations. Should be a good game, suppose it will be ignored tv wise though.
