The official site have confirmed that Marc Albrighton, who joined Villa as a 9-year-old, has penned a new three-year contract.

As expected, Villa striker Marlon Harewood has moved to Newcastle United. The former West Ham man has gone to St James Park on a three month loan. Good luck big man!

Andrew (aka Andy before he decided he wanted to change his name!) Cole said that Sol Campbell had talks with Villa before making a move to Notts County (he's quit there already). Ok, does anyone seriously think that Villa made an offer and he decided to go to Notts County instead? Nope, nor me. It was explained to me not long back about the process of making signings and (this being from someone who does this sort of thing for a living, not just a press talk type!) I was told that sometimes there are very brief conversations, this is often then taken as 'talks' whereas in fact many, many conversations aren't followed up on or go nowhere. So yes, maybe there was an indication or query, but no way did this develop into anything meaningful!

Steve Sidwell picked up a slight thigh injury in the warm up before the Carling Cup clash with Cardiff City last night. MON said ahead of this weekends game v Blackburn Rovers: 'I've got a bit of concern with Steve Sidwell. He played splendidly against Portsmouth on Saturday. I was going to keep him back on the subs bench against Cardiff but in the warm up he felt his thigh. Even though he was down as a sub on the list, he could not have come on. It was getting sore as he was on the bench so that is be a bit of a concern.'' Be interesting to see if he doesn't play whether Nigel Hokey-Cokey will?
