'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Manager Ends The Hokey Cokey Contretemps

Martin O'Neill has had his final word on the spat with midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker today. It's hardly earth shattering, but one line leaves open concern.

In an interview on the official site Monny described the matter as over, said private words were had and that as far as he was concerned that would be the final comment on the matter.

'I had a word with Nigel in private yesterday. That's how it's going to remain as far as I am concerned. I won't be divulging what I said to him or him to me.

'As for as I am concerned that's the end of the issue.'

Clear, concise and to the point.

However, I know those with a conspiracy minded element to their grey matter could have a field day with the other sentence uttered to Mr Brown of official site fame.

'But if Nigel or sources close to him want to it's entirely up to them.'

Hopefully Hokey considers the matter closed as well, and Monny comments could've been in relation to the 'finer details' that broke after the initial story in the Sun, after all most media outlet's that night were fun of 'sources close to Hokey' explaining about Delboy, the mystical pass etc etc.

Fingers crossed we never find out until either of them gets the biography bug and spills all. For now though, love or loathe him, our midfield is better as a 3 man with Hokey involved.

Whilst the football might not be great, we are pulling out the results and we have our luck back. Although unlikely given the team's response in the Pompey match, it would be a desperate shame if this incident actually plays any part in our progress this season.

Let sleeping dogs lie, and give us the giggle when careers are over.

He'll be gone come January, imo. Although I would expect NRC to try and put himself in the shop window, so I'm not worried about any lack of effort if he gets to play.

Without a doubt we look more secure with NRC in midfield than without. At times on Saturday in the second half we were a poor second best in the middle of the park...just check the shot count for Portsmouth all coming form moves down the middle. He is an undevalued player. Even if he has a high opinion of himslef I do believe that too many have far too low an opinion and are blinkered to his value in a middle 3. And by the way he is one of the only players who always goes all the way up to the fans after games to thank them for the support (and not a fleeting wave from the half way line).

I hope he doesn't go in Jan. He's too good to sell, and we won't get back what we paid for him. I believe MoN when he says "this is an end to the matter".

I too hope he stays & it's forgotten... he's a machine in the middle, and supports our defence. Much better than sidders IMO

NRC will play tonight against Cardiff and be singled out for praise after the game for producing a masterful performance despite the distractions of the weekend. NRC will then have that smug little grin on his face that his mom thinks makes him look cute and the teacup will once again be calm.
