No Young Return For Cardiff

And our other Young is also a doubt after picking up a knock on his calf against Pompey.

Speaking on the official site Martin O'Neill has admitted that although Luke Young has been doing well and played in the recent 7-1 thumping of Coventry in a behind closed doors friendly (nope that's all we know sadly) he won't be in attendance for the Cardiff match.

I'm sure our thoughts will be with him and his family tomorrow as he attends the funeral of his brother.

'Luke is doing really, really well. He played in a behind-closed-doors game with Coventry this week and he is definitely getting much fitter which is great news.'

Emile Heskey is definitely out of the running however he should be fit for the weekend game with Blackburn.

'Emile won't need a scan. He is getting better. He is a serious doubt for the Carling Cup but the weekend game is looking the more likely scenario.'

Stewart Downing has had the pin removed from his foot and it is estimated he'll be back in contention come November time.

'Stewart has had the operation. The specialist is pretty pleased. He will have some days off now but he is feeling very buoyant.'

Finally, Ashley Young could sit out the Cup clash after taking a day off training after the Pompey match.

'Ashley is a concern. He might be a doubt. He didn't train today. He got a kick in his calf during the Portsmouth game but carried on. It is sore now.'
