Many of us wondered when news of Richard Dunne's signing broke whether he would be our new captain but apparently Monny hasn't thought that far ahead.
Speaking on the official site today, Monny has said he has no plans to make Dunne the captain as he has faith in Stiliyan Petrov's ability to continue to lead the team to victory.
Dunne in himself is more than qualified, we've had enough quotes of late about his quiet off pitch attitude and his transformation into a town cryer for 90 minutes, and he was Man city's official captain for more years than I care to remember, however MON is far more interested in seeing him settle properly into the club without any added pressure.
'It's not been an issue. I know Richard has been captain of his previous team for quite some considerable time. But he never once asked me about the captaincy when he joined or since.
'He just wants to settle down and I'm not so sure I want to be putting an extra responsibility on someone so new to the club.'
Makes perfect sense to me, armband or not, Dunne is going to lead by example and by his mouth anyway so it's not like we will miss out on his ability to organise and motivate those around him.
In fact Monny proves it with his ending words:
'My own view is that if you are a natural leader, wearing an armband doesn't make any difference.'
So there we have it folks, whilst Monny may consider a change of captain in the future there's no need to worry about it for now.![]()
